BNG: Why did you remove Materials for Marks?

When I 1st read the patch notes I was excited to see the addition of Marks for Upgrade Materials. Finally I would have something else to spend my excess Vanguard marks on. I always like when games offer you options. If you needed extra marks, you could exchange some materials, now if you need extra materials you could trade in some marks. Of course, that excitement was quickly dashed when I discovered that you REPLACED the (Materials for Marks) with the (Marks for Materials). Why? Do you guys have some personal grudge against choices and options? Why does everything have to be one way OR the other. Why won't you provide multiple options instead of limiting us to just one? Why can't you let your players decide what they prefer to do instead of forcing everything to be all or nothing? Instead of letting people choose if they want to play PvP or PvE, you seem to be trying to push people into both. * Why not just let people enjoy the parts of Destiny they love without punishing them for it? * By replacing the material exchange, people have no choice but to run the crucible if they want to purchase anything from the faction vendors. Where before, if you didn't want to run the crucible, you could farm some materials, trade them in for marks, than spend them on the faction vendors. Well, not anymore... I just don't understand. * Why couldn't you just remove the (reputation/glimmer) gains and leave the option to trade materials for marks? At an exchange rate of 5 to 1, would being able to swap one type of Mark for another really have been so bad? * * You provided so many great new ways to aquire extra materials, than took away the only other feature they could be used for. * Sony online store Xbox online store
Destiny is a next generation first person shooter featuring an unprecedented combination of cinematic storytelling, cooperative, competitive, and public gameplay, and personal activities that are woven into an expansive, persistent online world. • So, I had a thought about this. Since the removal of the material for marks exchange wasn't mentioned in any notes prior to the DLC and since they did institute a new exchange of marks for materials, what if they didn't intend for the material for marks to be removed? I haven't read anywhere about anyone at Bungie/Activision even acknowledging that the original exchange system was removed. Kind of like how we lose ammo when we die or how heavy ammo on the ground disappears when a rocket is fired in the area. They only just recently acknowledged the heavy ammo issue. What if in the process of instituting the new exchange system some code was overwritten or screwed up? Just a thought.

    • It better because u don't have to waste you're time farming into patrol mission When u trade u get like : +25 Vanguard Reputation +4 Vanguard Mark +1 Strange Coin (rarely) +1 Mote of light (rarely) And u have to trade 50 just for this bullshit And see what u get rewarded and the tiger vanguard playlist: +25 Vanguard Reputation +6 vanguard mark +2 Rare engrams , sometimes 4 (+150 Cryptarch reputation) +1 Strange coin or Mote of light (rare) Now u can buy 20 materials for 10 marks , this is not bullshit And I like this system , a lot also.

      • I disagree completely, if you could trade marks for different ones it would ruin the balance of the game. People could easily get more than the 100 mark a week limit. Also why would you want to trade marks, it makes you false. People can look at your armor and tell what type of person you are based on your armor. Also farming for materials was not pit away lol. I farm for materials all the time because 1 in every 7 chests will give me 10-16 material from that planet. It is easier to farm materials than it used to be and a heck of a lot faster than buying them. Stop complaining about how Bungie made the game. The game is perfect and extremely fun to play

        • It's stupid. Now I'm sitting on over 400 spinmetal and growing. Don't make me do so many things on Earth if you don't expect me to pick that stuff up. Both options is definitely the way to go.

          • I used to run a 30+ member clan, with regular gaming nights, raids, and strikes going, full fireteams with a bunch of activity. Now they all are gone. There is just myself and one other guy. everyone left because Bungie kept screwing over the PvE side of the game. Lack of events for it. Only one faction for it. Only one vendor for it. And nerfing weapons in PvE that only needed a PvP balance. But this... changing the economy of the game. Taking away what was our one way to earn crucible/faction gear without having to go into crucible was the last straw for just about everyone of my guys.

          • Stop complaining. If you're a player who only sticks to one area of the game PvE or PvP. Then you suck as a gamer and should return the game for half the price or cut the disk in half. A true gamer experiences ALL aspects of a game. And if you don't like it, then Destiny is NOT the game for you. Move on or grab it by the balls. Sheesh.

            • Glad to have found a thread like this; to the OP: Thanks, I couldn't agree more. I'm also sorry my first inspiration to join the "Destiny online community" is a negative one. I'm a casual player who isn't into PvP or Co-Op. I bought Destiny for the SP side of the game. I knew I was taking a chance buying a Bungie / Activision game: Bungie is known for the MP side of their games, Activision is known for "quick cash-in / stock-holder gaming". Unfortunately, it's Obvious that Bungie hasn't and isn't putting much thought or effort into the SP side of Destiny, & this change to the "materials for marks" system makes it Blatantly obvious. The Empty "3D screen saver" of a gameworld, 6th grade "Creative Writing class" narrative & characters, the dearth of post-Story SP content, & NOW: the only, ONLY, way for SP / XBL Silver players to get Legendary gear is the Daily Heroic Story!?!? Chest, Hands, Feet = a week, Helmet = a month?!? This change makes Crucible gear truly MP-only and that's cool, as-it-should-be; shouldn't be able to use MP "themed" gear if you aren't doing MP. But making all the factions gear, but Vanguards, MP-only?!?! When I'm doing Patrols ("dang" near all there is FOR SP / XBL Silver to do) I'm getting "requests" from ALL the factions, but I can't get their gear?!?! <exasperated sigh> I Really enjoy the gunplay, music, and initially the story even as thin as it is. I just wish the SP side of the game had been given as much forethought & consideration as in previous Bungie games. As it is, I'll continue playing Destiny & enjoying what Little there is available to me, the "Single Player player". And while I'm currently XBL Gold, I Don't Want Or Like Pvp or Co-op, am not going to "help grow the community" by doing anymore PvP or Co-op, and Definitely Not going to PAY full price for DLC when the SP side of Destiny shipped w/ so little content; maybe next Holiday season it'll be on sale. Take it easy.

              • I enjoyed picking up materials while doing bounties and always have more materials than I need. It was nice to use those extra materials to get crucible marks, since 4/5 venders use them. I was very disappointed to see this feature taken away! This was the only useful thing that could be done with extra materials. Now they are just rotting in my box. With my weapon parts.

              • I agree.... this would also allow me to extange vanguard marks for crucible marks. Hope they put this back in so we can break the system.

                • agree, why can't it be both ways? what are we supposed to do with all the materials that we have collected? just store it with all the gun parts and materials from breaking armor?

                • You can always do strikes to get Vanguard marks to buy upgrade material. If you don't like doing strikes or crucible than I don't know what to tell you.

Looks like I have wasted my time on a game that keeps changing the way "They want you to play it" What the Blam am I supposed to do with all my extra materials now? Plz patch this stupid patch!

Like many of you have said, I am one more player who cant stand mutiplayer. I really dislike the fact that devs force us to play a game mode we do not want to, and they do because some especially weapons are only avaible for purchase with crucible marks. Basically I would just like to know if the devs care about our opinions and if there is any plan to address this, or we will just be ignored and they dont give a f***.

                    • Lets have a protest day. Where every player goes into crucible and just walks around the maps. No one shoots. Just walk. Fill the servers with that for a day or two and maybe they'll get the message.

                      • I am also really frustrated: There are a total of (including DLC) 5 strikes, which are the best way to earn Vanguard marks now. I don't mind the run and gun of patrols, infact I do the patrols more than the story mode. I do not enjoy PvP, never have been a huge fan of it in any game. But now, there is so little to do in the game... you grind for reputation, you grind for marks, and there is so little to do with them. I have been stockpiling materials because I want to be able to upgrade my new gear as soon as I gain the XP... but I can't afford the new gear, so its a waste of time and space. I love the game in parts, but these little things just keep building up. My loyalty to Bungie as a company and my faith in their developement team is being pushed to the limit...

                        • They removed the feature because it was a stupid feature to begin with. The majority of players didn't even use it. Think about it... 200 relic iron for 20 marks... Who would farm marks like this to avoid playing cruicble? Honestly complete waste of time.

                          • It makes no sense to me either. If the goal was to FORCE players who want to access 80% of the vendors (for whatever reason) or to eliminate one way to GRIND for items then it makes sense. Who cares how anyone decides to spend their OWN time grinding in Destiny? Why MUST we play the horrendous Crucible when watching paint dry is much more enjoyable? If the Crucible was more like Halo I doubt there would be so much negativity. Any game that has stockpiles of specific items should be a good indication there is a problem. They don't even bother to give us a solution for armor salvage or the millions of salvaged ships we all did. Just keep giving us more brown rare ships I guess. No one is asking for nerfs, buffs, cheats, etc. All we want is to be able to farm materials and be able to buy stuff from the default vendors. I'm even OK with only allowing reputation gains for the Crucible Vendors be from the Crucible only. Since all of the reputation gains of the factions have been from PvE, don't tell me they can't take PvE currency. We do Patrol Missions for these Factions so we should be able to buy from them without stepping one foot into the horrendous Crucible. To the Crucible lovers, ask yourself a question, why do you think Bungie is doing so much to force us into the Crucible? Is it because everyone but a tiny few play it? Doubtful from all the posts. Is it because once we all play it we'll love it? Hell No, the more I try it the worse it is. Is it because Destiny's Crucible is one of the best PvP game types of all? Double Hell No. Is it because the Crucible numbers are tremendously low compared to Patrols, strikes and raids? Hell Yes. This is the FIRST PvE/PvP game I've played that I just completely dislike PvP. It does almost everything wrong. I LOVED Halo 2 PvP and still love DC Universe Online. All they had to do is bring over Halo 2 PvP, customize and tweak it for Destiny and it would have been great. You know... small maps, big maps, CTF, vehicles, custom games, voting maps, etc. If only Destiny had more in common with DC Universe Online than with Pong 1 and Pong 2 and even Pong 3D. It's almost unbelievable that this company had anything to do with the Halo franchise. Is this really the same company that made Halo the juggernaut it became? Bungie, if you did sell your soul to Microsoft, you might want to beg them to come back and get it back so you can make the groundbreaking games like we thought you could do with Destiny.

                          • One day while playing destiny I opened my vault to find that I had over 800 of each material I was pleased when I found through research I could exchange these materials for marks but of course that feature had been removed when I went to sell my materials, I can see how A material exchange for marks could create a problem but only if it is poorly sought through. Just give me something to do with my materials other than throw them away, I grind on destiny for such a long time and still have only found about five weapons to use these materials on. I am very frustrated with the upgrade material set up.
