@Bungie - How to make meaningfull bounties and events. A lesson in game design chapter 2!

TL:DR - How to create meaningfull events and how to deliver story and lore throughout the game in ways that make people want to play longer. How to make us come back as gamers! Hi everyone! I got great feedback on my exotic bounties quest. I promised I was gonna make another post about better story/lore delivery and game design and this post will be that post. If you haven´t read the exotic bounties post, here is the link for that one: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/73331900/0/0/1 The Grimoire: For my delivery system to work there needs to be one fundamental change to Destiny, the Grimoire. There is use for this tool but only if it is added to the game as a tab in our menues like our equipment page. 1) We get a tab for Grimoire that tracks our progress for kills and everything the grimoire does today. Within the grimoire you can read minor text that you uncover while exploring the world (I have this tied into my exotic bounties post so check it out). The grimoire still fills the function of a black book that is updated with information and pictures (kind of like Nathan Drakes book in Uncharted if you will). 2) Within the Grimoir there would be specific sections which would be called History and Legends (intrigued yet?). This tab would be used in sync with the new Bounties system that Destiny could make use of. Legends would make use of storing the missions of exotic bounties you aquire and they would use the new processe that I talk about in my other post of how you aquire this bounties and then log them in the grimoire. Upon completion of an Exotic bounty you can then launch it to play it again with friends who don´t have that bounty for the sheer fun of reliving that questline, the reward would be the engrams and ability to explore and find notes to log in your and your friends Grimoire. The Exotic reward can only be claimed the first time around and your friends can only get it if they themselves started their own questline (no cheating). History would make use of a new weekly or monthly questline that is long and makes you dive into the past. These would be bounties that you get from different NPC´s everytime. Let´s take Ikora Rey for example. She is the questgiver this month and her being a Warlock she tells you a tale (which you as a gamer get to play through with her voice narrating the whole questline along with your ghost). You step into the shoes of Ikora back in time during some big event and you experience the world as it was then in a specific questline. This could give us the chance to get further information and dive deep into the time right before, after and during the collapse. The possibilities are endless. Another month it could be that you step into the shoes of Kabr when he for the first time set foot in the Vault of Glass and created the Relic which we use to defeat Aetheon. Bungie would be able to use this format to feed us parts of the story and retell the past in ways like games such as "Tell Tale Games do with Walking Dead / A Wolf Among Us". Events: Iron Banner: Could use the treatment of PVE and lore distribution aswell. Whenever an Iron Banner event is launched you could be greeted with a cutscene and narrative when you first log into the Tower or when you talk to Lord Sallahdin. During the Event he can give you one specific bounty that you have to complete in the crucible such as hold a capture point for 3 minutes without losing it. Upon completing this specific bounty you are then rewarded with a class item/bonus marks/bonus rep for the rest of the event AND a little story moment when Sallahdin retells how a guardian once held the final control point against an entire team when all his team was whiped out and singelhandedly won the match for his side. This is just ONE of the MANY possibilities in which PvP can have a nice PVE touch to it and make it more fun for PvE players to engage in PvP. Upon completing this bounty it would be loged in your Grimoire for all to see that you managed to complete it as a feat of strength and the mark of a true Guardian. Queens Wrath and other events to come: The same format could be applied as to the above Iron Banner but this time the special bounty would have a story related element that you actually get orders from the Queen and you have to tread a specific path with a 2-3 part divided quest with narrative and objectives before handing it in. It could end in a raid encounter where Bungie uses it´s public event system to end the mission in patrol mode and where you wait for others to join in and you take down an epic event boss at the end (rewarded based on contribution like kills/assists/hits/deaths/missed shots/supers used/grenades landed and so on for a loot table with items. And just like Iron Banner in the end you would be immortalized with an entry in your Grimoire for all to see. What I mean with all to see is that you can read other peoples Grimoir progress when you inspect them to truly let people see your LEGEND!!!! Did you like these ideas? If you did, leave a comment below and let me know? Would you like to see them in the game? Like and bump this thread. Regards Oktalz
