I've never seen one taken down, but I saw a guy do a cool trick with one that so far I haven't been able to duplicate. It was at Archer's Line on the moon during a Defend the Warsat public event. When a Fallen drop ship came, he fired a rocket at it and it pretty much crapped ammo. He hit 2 of the ships and between them there were at least 50 heavy ammo cartridges dropped, along with special and primaries. I've tried to duplicate it, but no luck. There must be a certain place you have to hit it. If anyone knows about this please reply.

This is actually the easiest way to beat the Warsat event, everyone with rockets, as soon as the ship comes in unload on the part where the enemies come down from, you can kill them all before they even leave the ship and it rains ammo boxes/engrams.

Hunger of Crota works really well for that. The cluster munitions will kill anyone the main explosion doesn't

I just pictured a dropship literally crapping ammo like diarrhea.

That's kind of what it looked like, I couldn't think of a better way to describe it.

Edited by jmferris: 10/27/2014 9:30:55 PMCould have been coincidence - and the reason I say that is that I've seen dropships do that without anyone firing a single shot. Something in the physics/damage calculations look off when the ground rises up to be too close to the dropship, in some locations. Had originally only seen it in the Defeat Enemy Extraction Crews events on the Moon, but also saw it for a Warsat, the other day, too. For the latter, was 100% sure that no one else was firing at them, as I did not see anyone else around at the time. Edit: Forgot to mention, when I see it happen, I see the dead enemies from the dropship on the ground already - just like someone had killed them all.

You can kill the enemies as soon as they appear on the exterior of the dropship so I can see why ammo might rain down.
-
Yep, and I do that. Just that I've also seen it with no shots fired - and at least confirmed that to myself over the weekend with no one else in sight when it was raining corpses. :-)
-
Could be. It did appear over one of those buildings & right next to the monorail track or whatever that is. It was very close to other objects, if I understand your point correctly. There were a number of them that hit the ground dead, but I assumed it was that dudes rocket that got 'em.

That is exactly where I saw it, over the weekend, too. I was up on the accelerator rail picking up a chest, and was racing over to make it to the event before the timer elapsed. Was able to see the Fallen drop, and I got there just as the timer expired. Ammo all over the place, and a Rare Engram, too.

Are you sure he didn't just kill the enemies trying to get out?
-
Not sure, but when I say crapped ammo I mean crapped ammo. Way, way more than you'd find if you let them land and then killed them all. Good point though, maybe fire at the ranking officer while just before he drops. I'll try that. Thanks.

Sounds like you just got lucky on ammo from the Mobs that were spawning out. It's one of my favorite things to do.
