What is better Thorn or The Last Word?
I received The Last Word as a random drop at the end of the raid on Tuesday, but I am yet to fire a single bullet; as I have been levelling up Atheon’s Epilogue in preparation for next week’s raid (another drop from this week’s raid).
I am in the middle of the bounty for Thorn, so I will end up with 2 exotic hand cannons. I’ve only ever tried a hand cannon once, early on it the game. At the time it was nowhere near as good as the scout rifle I had, so I always just dismantle them whenever I get one.
I’m planning on keeping these because of all of the people I know who rave about their hand cannon, but it will take me ages to level them both up. Which one do people prefer?

Last Word when they aren't upgraded. IMO they're pretty equal when they're maxed out.

7 RepliesDon't bother with the epilogue. It's trash. As for last word vs thorn: definitely last word. Though I personally don't like using last word because of how inaccurate it is. I've been rocking The Devil You Know till I get fatebringer or a buffed vex

I've never used TLW but I have thorn and it's a great handcannon. Thorns poison is awesome in pvp but it's reload is terribly slow. If you get thorn you have to get some armor that will speed up the reload.

10 RepliesLook at my stats. I have a 3.17 and only use handcannons. I have all 3 exotics. I say this so you will understand i have credibility when i say, everyone is stupid. Thorn is the strongest pvp handcannon in close competition with hawkmoon. Last words looks and acts cool, but sucks in comparison.

Thorn is the best weapon to use against the Hive in PvE after it is upgraded. It pierces targets, which allows you to shoot MULTIPLE enemies. Say you're getting chased by a bunch of Thrall. Sure you could use the last word and shoot 8 bullets at them, but knowing how many can come, you'll have to reload. With the Thorn, you can kill multiple ones at once. Plus the poison damage is good in PvP.

Thorn rocks in PvP (with Mark of the Devourer of course), but the small magazine and slow reload can spell death in PvE, which is why I use The Lord High Fixer in PvE.

on crucible they are about even i prefer rhorn because it can have sniper range and u can track players due to the poison tic but lastwork is my control gun and basically is near best weapon

If you are good at aiming for headshots then Thorn. Two headshots and guaranteed kill. The last word is only really good for close range hip fire. I have both and I do much better with Thorn.

I haven't upgraded it yet, but The Last Word is by far the worst pvp gun I've ever tried.

I've only had The Last Word but in my opinion it was fantastic, but I have been killed many times with Thorn. I think more people have Thorn that's why I notice it more often but they both deal really good amounts of damage. Especially since one is automatic and the other deals damage over time.

5 RepliesCurrently, The Last Word is better than Thorn. Thorn needs some tweaking to make it up to par with the other legendary/exotic hand cannons. Get it and hold on to it in your vault for now.

1 ReplyIve only got Thorn so thats why I voted for it....I've been grindin so hard to get Last Word. Thorn fully loaded is awesome though. It takes one to two shots per kill. I sometimes shoot in the chest and walk/run away and let the mark of devour finish them off...both are great to have

2 RepliesThorn suits me a bit more, the last work is like the auto rifle of handcannons, its a beast, I love it, but I use thorn more often, and it has a buff on the way, plus the DOT is very useful, if you hit the shield on a phalanx it still applies the dot effect, not to mention you can keep shield from regening easier, and in pvp it scores those kills that for other guns would have been an almost kill.

1 ReplyWheres hawkmoon? It deals a shit ton in pve. Its more like you have a special weapon when you keep getting those precision shots with hawkmoon. Tho if its thorn vs LW its LW without a doubt.

I have had a standoff with last word user in the crucible last night and 75% of the time I was coming out on top with the over 25% being us trading thanks to lingering damage or I was too close and he went old west on my ass! Looking forward to getting it!

3 RepliesThorn is good and I believe it has penetrating rounds. I noticed that I could shoot two enemies with one bullet but I have never did that with any other hand cannon. The lingering damage is okay in pve. It is best best used against the small fries of the different enemies. Really with the thorn you just have to figure out how much health you have to deal to your enemy before you can turn away and let the lingering damage to finish it off. That goes for pve and PvP. The reload is indeed slow like over people said and the 6 rounds could take some getting used to if you are used to hand cannons with larger...cylinder I guess? The last word is great but takes some getting used to with the higher than normal recoil for a hand cannon and the extreme lack of range. The high rate of fire for a hand cannon though makes up for it. It does the same amount of damage as any other hand cannon but of course in a short amount of time. Usually 3-4 shots to kill in pvp with precision or body shots and about the same amount in pve depending on your level, the enemies level, and the damage upgrades you have on the last word. The perks you really want for it are the stability perks. The gun is made for hip firing but don't get carried away unless you are that good. Hip fire at close range only, you only risk death if you try to win a fight from mid to long range
