Man, I miss this. Teaming up with friends across the country is fun, but why oh why is it not possible to do the same with a buddy sitting next to you on the couch. It was a key aspect of all Bungie's other games.
It cuts down on playability not having this. If a friend's over, we can't play Destiny and have to settle on another title. I can honestly say a lot of my time playing this game will disappear into Halo: Master Chief edition when that drops for the sole reason that it will have a feature that should in all right be part of Destiny too. Bungie's built a game with a focus on social gaming and then left out the most social way to play a game. That baffles me.
Also, what better way to hook new players than have them play at a friend's and love the game so much they go out and buy their own copy? That just seems like sound business sense.
I've even thought of a way to incorporate "guests" into the world without breaking the gestalt. In the Grimoire it states that Arcite 99-40 (The Crucible Quartermaster) is the last of Lord Shaxx's personal combat frames. Why not have the guest user play as your character's personal combat Frame in PVE missions or PVP multiplayer? What's more, allowing players to customize a companion adds another aspect of gameplay and gives another objective in the hunt for sweet loots.
Oh, how I long for a war frame that despises me and calls me meatbag.
