It's so confusing when someone joins a fireteam with a female character and ends up being a dude (*cue Aerosmith*).
Do they all just want the D? But seriously, can any guys who do this shed some light on.. why?
I feel like someone pulled an Oprah, "You get a female warlock, and YOU get a female warlock! Everyone gets female warlocks!"
Edit: Jesus H. Christopher, I'm curious. I've noticed this quite often since I started playing, and I can't answer this question for myself, so I wanted some insight. inb4more "why do you even caaaaare?!!1!?!?"
Edit again: holy -blam!-, I'm a girl. Hence why I don't have insight to why this happens.
Edit, take three: thanks to everyone who gave a legitimate answer! I appreciate the insight :-)

3 RepliesThere's a thread here where this dad has a 4 year old daughter who happens to play Destiny and plays a Male hunter. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/72682894/0/0

1 ReplyAll the guys with girl characters are flaming...simple as that.

To put it in terms of Diablo III, female demon hunters are ****ing awesome
-
7 RepliesOh my Traveler, why are so many normal humans playing as super special awesome Guardians? Am I the only real Guardian playing this game?
-
Im a guy and I play both, why? because I can. Just like in many MMO's I play like WoW for example, ive got many male and female characters to play just because of variety.
-
The female warlock looked more badass so I rolled with it
-
To fit with the class, profession, race etc that you pick. For example in WoW I never really liked the Blood Elf male's looks or voices, didn't look/sound right, so I picked blood elf female. However when I wanted to go for a warrior I'd pick an orc and a tauren male. + the female models of the two for me didn't look right, they had no fearsome look to them that the males had. It's not just the gender, could be the race too. Most of mine ended up Orcs/troll because I prefered the start they have. However if I was picking on looks or to fit the class and wanted say a rogue I'd go for something like a goblin (they're small and sneaky) or a troll as they're quite thin whereas an Orc or big tauren don't exactly look like the can sneak around. Destiny I picked my characters first based on the race/class. For me the Titans are a strong tank or frontman up close fighter, so i went with the exos. I picked a male, it just seemed to fit. For warlocks I went for the awoken, they had a certain look to them, + a machine or half man half machine(exo?) and a human didn't really seem to fit magic. I chose a male but a female here would also fit. For the hunters I went with a human, as we kind of have been hunting since the dawn of time. I chose a female, they're smaller here (so easier to sneak) More agile I'd imagine and well I went with two males earlier. On another note I know some people that chose a female in games simply because guys would give them free stuff or more help and attention in the game. My sister used to go around asking guys for money in runescape and most guys usually coughed up to the point she got chat banned. Try that on a guy it won't work. When on my female characters in WoW I noticed guys generally would offer me help more if I asked for it or if they beat me in a duel they wouldn't brag about it or if I beat them start coming up with reasons like you cheated or used noob tactics etc. Yet if I asked for help on my male chars I wouldn't always get it and if you beat people in duels or go crazy killing in a bg some of the guys would go and create a char on my realm just to have a go at me.

I get sick of staring at a dude in the tower or in my menus all the time.

I've never really understood it either. I use video games to escape reality; to allow myself to be something I never could be in real life. You might say playing as a female would fit into that, but I suppose I've never had a desire to be a woman. I can't really relate to my character if it's a female. To each his own, though. I'm sure other people play games for an entirely different reason and just want to mix it up. But if I have a choice, I always choose my own gender. Hell, I generally try to even make the dude look as much like me as possible.
-
Also if people have not figured it out. Games have the gender Easter egg. Where the female has plus 2-3 agility, stamina, and jump ability Boost that most male gender don't have. I have done this is many games to see the difference. Friend and I both created same class and race but different gender. I was faster and jumped slightly higher then him.

5 RepliesI want my character to be badass. In space no one is more badass then Ripley. Ripley is a girl. Therefore, I made a girl hunter. All other arguments are invalid.
-
The female warlock reminded me I maya from borderlands 2

Well I think the most popular answer is that they don't wanna stare at a dudes ass when they play....
But I thought Destiny was a FPS
Edited by LadyDominax: 10/12/2014 9:34:11 PMI play on a female char, but that's because me and my wife both use the same PS name. We chose to use her name rather than mine because it makes it easier finding a fire team if your a girl :P EDIT: ALSO a lot of the female char thing came from old skool MMORPGs. In a lot of games that had gender specific items (armours etc) females were a lot cheaper when trading.
-
I play as a female Titan. Mostly for me, character models for female characters look better than their male counterparts. That's my reason.
-
Edited by Mckaos: 10/12/2014 9:32:05 PMI have a female hunter and a male warlock. I think hunters look so stupid as males. Thats my reasoning

3 RepliesI find it strange too almost like they want the attention. Who wants neck bearded nerds msg you everytime you go to the tower. Each to there own I guess.
-
Some guys like to tuck. but in all seriousness, who the -blam!- really cares? Are they sending you messages asking for sexy chat? Just make sure you're not hitting on a '15' year old girl.......
-
Got two male characters It was becoming a bit of a sausage fest.

I asked one of my friends a while back because I noticed he would make a female character for everything. Soul Calibur, any MMO, Dark Souls, Skyrim... You name it, he's a girl ahaha. And like the most ridiculous depiction of a girl too... Kind of went for a Harley Quinn appearance whenever he could. Idk his answer was honest or not but he said "If I'm going to be looking at somebodies back for hours I'd rather it be a girl." He then asked me why I play as a guy... I told him "I don't really look at it as me playing as somebody else, it's me playing as the nearest depiction of myself that I could create."

I have one exo, one human, and one awoken. One titan, one lock, and one hunter. 2 males and one female. For me its about diversity. If there were three genders then i would have one of each

2 RepliesEdited by MF NOOT NOOT: 10/12/2014 9:15:57 PMFor me it's more of the looks. Not in a sexual way mind you, but the male awoken and human just look... weird. The female awoken and human just look cooler in my opinion, they look deadlier and fit in more i guess. I tried rollin with a male human and awoken but every time I was at the tower I was just like "SHEESH! What monstrosity have I created!?" Right now I have a female human hunter and a female awoken warlock. When I do titan I'll probably roll a male Exo just cause it seems like it fits that class, at least to me it does. On another note kudos to Bungie for not over sexuallizing female armor on an mmo. Well played dear sirs, stay classy.

5 RepliesFemale characters are more aesthetically pleasing. Most of my characters are female, not because it relates to me, but more that it's just nicer to look at. Depending on the game, you'd see more or less of which gender plays what depending on how the character looks. I played a bit of ffxiv and both are pretty attractive so I understand when friends of mine make characters of the opposite gender. I mean if you're going to be spending hours on end looking at the backside of your character...

6 RepliesI say its because if your going to look at a character all day might as well make it a female lol. But in a lot of MMO games people use female characters for a few reasons. 1) better looking gear 2) some games females have better agility 3) guys fool other guys into thinking they are female irl and get them to buy them stuff
