It's so confusing when someone joins a fireteam with a female character and ends up being a dude (*cue Aerosmith*).
Do they all just want the D? But seriously, can any guys who do this shed some light on.. why?
I feel like someone pulled an Oprah, "You get a female warlock, and YOU get a female warlock! Everyone gets female warlocks!"
Edit: Jesus H. Christopher, I'm curious. I've noticed this quite often since I started playing, and I can't answer this question for myself, so I wanted some insight. inb4more "why do you even caaaaare?!!1!?!?"
Edit again: holy -blam!-, I'm a girl. Hence why I don't have insight to why this happens.
Edit, take three: thanks to everyone who gave a legitimate answer! I appreciate the insight :-)

I do it to fool people. There may be that ever so slight hesitation to shoot a girl. Every little bit helps in multiplayer.

1 Replyi'm not playing as a female, but i can understand why some do. has nothing to do with sexy or better looking armor in most cases.it's just the possibility to pick an avatar that is the complete oposite of your real life self. like, i've never in my life played as a human like character (except for games that only have human like characters), same goes for the awoken. That's why i'm automatically drawn towards the exo, there is no special reason why i picked them, i simply like them because they are different, and i'm sure that is why many also pick a race different to their RL race, simply because they don't want to stick with something that resembles their real self. while in destiny, most of the time it doesn't make a difference because of the FPS gameplay, other can still see your character, and that's what it comes down to. some like going all the way crazy looks, some like to make their characters muscular or super sexy, some like to show lazy, fat, extremely small characters, it's really too hard to get a general idea. in other words, there is no definite answer to "why" the masses pick female characters, despite being male.everyone probably has a different reason or none at all.it's not like your brain tells you to pick a male character because that's the right thing to do when you are one in real life.

Truth: guy gamers want to be in control of a hot female character

2 RepliesI just think female characters in shooting games are skinnier so it's a harder target to hit. Making a female character is unique in a way cause there isn't as many girls playing shooter games then dudes. So you'll see a lot more male characters running around then females. I want to be different not the same as the majority of the percentage of people that play shooters. Plus I also think it's great when the opposing person gets their @$$ handed to by a female character cause you don't see that often. That's why I make a female character. Ps I started doing it on Cod Ghosts. By no mean does that mean that I started playing shooters with Cod. 👍

1 ReplyBecause the only thing my girlfriend likes about destiny is the part where you create a character.. Now I got some dyke looking level 26 titan.. Hunter looks better as female though, imo. My warlock is male and that feels more badass.
-
10 RepliesWould you rather stare at a dude for hours or a hot female avatar? Simple as that.
-
To me it's to get variety and not always be the same

1 ReplyThere are apparently people who use video games as their means to stare at ass.
-
I made an ugly exo hunter just for the funzies I guess
-
2 RepliesFemale models have smaller frames so slightly harder to hit... Every edge counts
-
7 RepliesBecause they will never see a girl in real life.

I chose female because a female hunter > male hunter(if anything would be considered gay its male hunters). I let badassness deside. Im a dude, and im not gay, i dont rp my characters. and even if i would sex is the last thing id think about, im not 13.. ..also, awoken female are hot as over microwaved noodles!
-
my female is a hunter cause ive always made female hunters from Guld Wars to WoW ....now to Destiny its just a thing
-
This thread is great. Some excuses are entirely reasonable, while others are just creepy
-
Cant say I took much consideration into it except that I made a girl hunter that I thought looked cool. It really was that deep a thought process.
-
my first character was a male hunter. leveled to 19. then deleted it to make a female one lol i just think they look better. Best looking male character would be a titan tho.
-
Just to have a variety of design between my characters. Although my hunter is what my girlfriend plays on.
-
2 RepliesThe reason I do it isn't to play as a female per say but to be a smaller framed character, for instance and this is my own opinion but, the female titans look better because of their small frame instead of the bug bulky male titan look and I can relate more because I have a slim athletic build.
-
I do, got a human female hunter. . .though the amount of friend request I recieve is very misleading, just because I'm nice on helping you out doesn't mean I wanna tag along.
-
I think that a female hunter looks sexier then a male...
-
Wouldn't you wanted see a female run around and dance on your screen or a man all the time?

5 RepliesMost games have you play as a guy, so I play as a female when I get the chance. That aside, I like creating and decking out a bad ass looking female character, I kind of have a thing for that when it comes to the women I date as well haha. Eventually, though, I'll have probably 18 characters, male and female of each race, and of each class. Mostly because I'm going to run out of storage space at some point and will need other characters to hold onto my extra crap.

Edited by Axi Fellstar: 10/12/2014 11:00:04 PMIt's just a thing that goes on in pretty much every game. Like if you see a woman with a gun, who fights with skills and force that compare to men, and looks hot, then yes that character is pretty darn attractive. Women are usually seen as innocent and inferior to males, but when they act dominant and take matters and combat with a man's attitude, it's unique and cool. Yup. A nice lookin' girl with a gun and cloak? Priceless. Jeez that sounds weird as hell. Maybe this is weird, being a female hunter.

A lot of men like to look at an image that's appealing to them while they play. Most of the time it's not because men are gay that they play as women but because they are straight. Others like to put themselves in the character's shoes. Hence males playing as male characters. Homosexual characters could choose a male character because it's aesthetically and sexually pleasing but I can't say anything for that. Gender confused males could be playing as females to exhibit their own sexual curiosity, but I also cannot speak for that. Last part of post mostly speculation. I play a male character because it's easy for me to relate and immerse myself into the gameplay with the character. I occasionally play a female character because it's something nice to look at but not as often.

Because one simple reason i rather look at a female character every time i am in the tower or open my menu. Done the same in games like mass effect hell even Diablo. (pardon the pun) any guy that claims to be strait and then questions why another man rather looks at a female body should have a word with themselves. Now in not some little puberty plagued teen i am actually married and have a little daughter and even my wife understands the reasons behind my female character choice even if she herself rather pick female characters for herself.
