"Earners" are the hipsters of Destiny.

It needed to be said, so I'll be the one to say it, cuz IDGAF what people think. All you people crying about how you "earned" your (Insert Exotic Here) from RNG as opposed to buying it from Xur, you're all nothing but hipsters. They might as well open up a Starbucks in the Tower for you to chat about how you got the Suros Regime first over Pumpkin Spice Lattes. The Speaker will start selling Hunter ascots, Titan skinny jeans and Warlock cardigans just for your uppity asses. Gimme a f'king break. Nobody earns anything, it's all REWARDS. Know the difference. EDIT: Top of the trending page? Nice. Means that many agree that this is ridiculous, and many others are butthurt because they've been called out. The guilty will take offense. Everyone else, have a laugh on me. See you starside, Guardians...and The Speaker now has sizes up to 4XL for you Big & Tall people. EDIT- Necrobumped for IceBreaker sale #2. 1/16/2015 EDIT- Necrobumped for HoPF sale. 2/27/2015

  • Fun fact: Hawkmoon and Monte Carlo are the only exotics you can "earn" because they aren't on the other consoles and so far what xur sells is the same across consoles.

    • funny thing is I randomly got 2 or three of my exotics from strikes and an engram it doesn't exactly feel like earning something I get randomly so I don't know why people complain I did a torturous quest chain bought it or randomly got it...there's no real earning really. that said I enjoyed your rant kudos sir!

      • Nice post. With all the grinding in the game in order to get lucky for random "earnings", those who purchase items with Strange Coins from Xur are the wiser of the bunch I guess. "Why grind for 10-20 hours when I can just purchase it from Xur?" Heck, I "earned" those Strange Coins from grinding, why not spend what I "earned?" =)

      • I got Icebreaker a couple of weeks ago and I was initially disappointed with it. That lasted about a minute before I realized you get a new round every 5 seconds. I was happy to see Xur selling it so that I could get it for my other characters. I for one was happy to see Xur selling it despite already having one. Switching weapons between characters is the bane of my existence due to the loading screens. Now I want to see a raid where everyone has Icebreaker. pew pew!

      • Last night, in a matter of 5 minutes, I went from playing Forza Horizon to downing Atheon on hard and got the Vex mytho. And by downing I mean we pushed him off the edge. Totally earned it since I didn't buy it right? Obviously I'm being sarcastic. I got lucky as -blam!-. The whiners need to just shut up already. You are rewarded for playing the game and some are more lucky than others.

      • I wouldn't necessarily call them hipsters. Hipsters world go the other direction, buying crappy low level gear to use ironically. Also, hipsters would never be caught dead raiding, because that's too mainstream. That being said, I have to agree. Saying you earned something in a video game is silly. You may feel like you earned something, because destiny and games like it tickle the part of your brain that is triggered when you actually earn something. But it's still a game. If you really had to earn the hell out of the gear you wanted, if you had to put in real work, you wouldn't be playing, in any sense of the word. It's not work, and while you may have to "try" to get awesome loot drops, you wouldn't do it if it really sucked. Hell, if you think you're earning something, if raiding is work to you, then what's the point? After a certain point, any game of destiny's nature turns into a self-perpetuating circle of getting better loot to do better in the game to get better loot to do better in the game to get better loot. There is no endgame. And that's all it is: a game. The equips on your guardian don't matter to anyone outside the game, and chances are they don't matter to anyone outside of you. If trying to get loot has become work to you, if it's no longer fun, and if you're actually jealous of people who got the same or similar loot by buying it (or trying to make other people jealous of you because you managed to drain the fun out of getting the gear), for the love of all that is good and just, STOP PLAYING. You're taking this too seriously, and smart money says your life outside of gaming has fallen apart around your ears.

I think when people say "earning" they mean "getting it the hard way." They have to work harder (or less hard if they're lucky) even if their way was completely random, because their way is completely random. They don't know when they'll get it. They also spend a lot of time, but I don't think they have the right to talk about earning things more than the people with lots of coins.

      • You know what's absurd too is some of those "earners" are the ones who save hop to get to VoG on hard and get the Mthyoclast. Yeah buddy, you sure did earn that gun by save hopping. It's starting to tick me off to see so many lvl 29s running around with hard gear.

        • But it does FEEL more like you earned it if you did the raid. I know loads of people worked real hard to get all those strange coins but, to be honest, I have never set out and farmed the weekly heroic strike or nightfall. I always get them randomly from engrams and crucible, totally randomly. So if I bought an exotic it wouldn't really feel like I "earned" it. But I do partially agree with you

earned lol It's RNG. It's all about randomization and luck. infact, you could say the opposite in Destiny. Most people didn't deserve their drops. I personally love Bungie's approach to loot. Grind, raid, and farm your way to the best loot and have bragging rights with no currency spent. Then it's available in the store for those of us less fortunate with rng or with no friends at a price for purchase. Now if only all raid loot was for sale, perhaps at a high price

            • Last I checked, and after deleting and restarting several characters, I never received a Welcome To Destiny tote bag with my legendary and/or exotic equipment in it for simply buying the game. Where can I get that so I don't have to play?
