HEAR YE, HEAR YE! CALLING UPON THINE GLORIOUS DESTINY KNOWLEDGE!
I adore my Hand Cannon. Hit every shot, and it completely dominates in PvE. Matches my playstyle very well, and once I got one I haven't gone back. But there's one problem... I suck with it in PvP! The Auto Rifles tear through me from an insane range; I can barely get a shot out. Is this my own lack of skill or do other people have this problem? Do you guys have any tips? Thanks!

Necrobump for auto rifles killing from any range
-
Depends on your handcannon, a fast-firing handcannon its faster to aim after the first shot giving it more time to place your shot. Or maybe the lag its just OP.
-
Just takes practice with it. I can easily get about like 20+ kills and stay under like 5 deaths using only the hand cannon.
-
Nah its skill bro. Just keep at it and youll get better. I advise saving up crucible marks to get a lord high fixxer. Was an amazing hand cannon for me before i got The Last Word.
-
Run it with a shotgun. When people get too up close and personal, that's when the hand cannon is weakest. Range doesn't really matter in PvP in my opinion so you'll be all set.
-
Or just use one for PVE and use an auto, pulse,or scout for PVP
-
I can rock em in 2 shots with thorn... Gotta go for the headshots bro
-
Get thorn

Hand cannons win every time to AR's assuming you don't mess up and get first reaction. That means 2-3 solid shots strait to the head. If you mess up once, your screwed. If you hide, AR will be ready to spray to take the last of your health

3 RepliesEdited by consago: 10/5/2014 3:08:42 AMThere really isn't any tips to what you have probably been doing already i.e. aim at the head. The one thing i will say is keep your distance and only go 1v1, if you get jumped by more then one enemy your done for and should run away strategically!

Beware there is a certain amount of aim assist during PvE that will hinder your skill during PvP. It causes your reflexes to rely on the guidance without you knowing it. At certain ranges enemies in PvE will become almost magnetic and guide your sights over to them. Practice makes perfect especially when aiming at more unpredictable targets that real human players can demonstrate. Also I've noticed that not every hand cannon is made the same, find the right combo of stats and mods. Personally I've found that I used a hand cannon with good stability and 11 rounds in the mag in PvP Vs a 5 round fast reloader in PvE. Giving me more flexibility when I miss a shot or two and allowing me to have more then enough shots for ranged targets or more then one enemy in PvP and just pop skulls then reload faster in PvE. The end goal was to eventually ween my self off the reliance of extra bullets but honestly having 11 rounds helped so much I kept it. I feel that the hand cannon isn't a Titans ideal weapon as there is no secondary except for shotgun or fusion rifles and both have niche of there own where as a hand cannon mixed with the throwing knife of a hunter can be a devastating combo especially for people getting too close.

I've been near death a bunch of times by hand cannon. Just practice with it.

1 ReplyIt's not as effective as other guns like the auto, I feel it needs a slight buff to range, reload speed.

So many replies! Thank you everyone for the great advice. You have convinced me! I shall not abandon this elegant weapon, even when fusion and assault rifles blast at me from afar! If I give in, pick up the enemy's weapons in shame, it shall only be a temporary respite so that I may return full force! I shall train, learn my calling weapon's every nook and cranny, learn the meaning of golden numbers... until I am gifted with something I am almost unworthy to behold. An exotic. Ooh, then shall I reap destruction, then shall my enemies know the true face of death! YAHAHAHAA!!! ... ..... *ahem* ... Anyway, thanks. *Ghost looks concerned* I should probably go to bed now. Night everyone! See you in the Tower : )

5 RepliesEdited by ninemil: 10/5/2014 4:17:47 AMSame problem as you, OP. I ran with a Hand cannon/Sniper Rifle combo almost the entire first trip through the main story, and did everything but the final couple of missions first time, on hard, and solo. But in PvP I struggled to get a 1.0+ K/D. Eventually I dropped to a Pulse Rifle/Shotgun combo, and now regularly carry my team, with K/D's ranging from 1.6 - 2.7. Think it's just the playstyle, tbh. Not enough time to make all that extra aiming worthwhile.

I've actually done quite well with the hand cannon in pvp. I don't like using any of the infamous weapons like the shotgun, the AR, and the fusion rifle, so I like to use the hand cannon and the sniper in pvp.
-
I tried it, didn't get anywhere, switched to auto rifle and haven't bothered to change I think the weapon balancing is completely off, factor in lag and precision weapons just hold you back in pvp
-
My tip is to get Thorn, upgrade it, and learn to love its every curve.

1 ReplyI'm good with the hand cannon in PVP. The only problem is range
-
you just need to be more defensive/quicker. i can always beat someone with a hand cannon but i need to make my shots count.
-
I've been having the same issues with Scout Rifles.

I was head-shotted from near sniping range with one of those shinegan-e rifles i have one its max stability near max rof and u just lay down the head shots like u were using a mg42 buzz-saw but with no recoil it outdoes every gun in the game atm imo.... well except rockets and some of the crazy exotics. You dont suck with the hand cannon i prefer using mine over the crazy auto rifle because its so fun and rewarding, but it is unbelievably hard to use against a real live player when compared to an npc which will walk into your fire and let you strafe your head shots onto them as if you were ice skating around for fun. Im having the toughest time trying to get head shots with the scout rifle for a bounty which i could have completed ages ago if it were just a damn hand cannon head shot bounty X( Try challenging yourself/your brain by making hitting mobs in pve much more difficult by executing jumps using inclines, trying to quick scope, and even putting yourself out in the open to give yourself more pressure to not die and get the kills and it will help you out in pvp to an extent.

Hand cannon is just a different style when I came from bf4 I had to slow down and breath... I get a ton of kills now because I focus on being calm... And when I am I know to take a few shots and retreat... I use a shotgun with my hand cannon so I practice enticing people around corners and then being calm and taking the shot. I also have gotten good at throwing a grenade or melee with my hand cannon shots to drop people... It's different but very tacticle and you can go on great kill streaks and really be an asset to a team... I like to play control and so I use these tactics to lock down areas of the map knowing that I must not plant my feet in one place and take guys head on... But make their movment into your territory a nervouse proposition.

I was just using one and out gunned an LMG. But they can be annoying to use in pvp.
