I always get more gun parts and armor materials out of upgraded weapons, but its always less then i put in. Do weapons you have leveled but haven't actually purchased the upgrades return the same as leveled with upgrades paid for? If that's the case I may start saving unwanted legendaries so I can turn a few bounties in with them first. My main guns are waiting on materials and not xp anyway.

I'm thinking rather than the buying the upgrades, it's only the exp on the weapons/armor that matters. I'm fully leveling 2 legendary weapons and 1 armor without the upgrades to dismantle and test this theory. Hopefully, I can post the video up late tonight.

I know on all of the green/blue items, you get more mats out of them if you have the xp in them, but you get nothing extra for actually purchasing the upgrades. That's why I equip gear I don't care about at all when I turn in bounties, just to get the mats. Haven't tried it on purple/yellow items yet, as I haven't had enough yet to test on. Hope this helps!

Dismantled a purple chest I got and maxed the xp on, however no upgrades, and I got 3 ascendant energy. Don't have a control to test against, but I hope that helps. I know it's late bit it took me a few days to max it.
