crucible: the guide

What is up guys! Quip13One(or The Red Titan) here with a guide of every tip, trick and advantage I can think of of what I have learned and researched about exactly what it takes to become successful at the online PVP arena known as the crucible! Forgive any typos or slip ups and feel free to ad your own tips so this can become the ultimate PVP guide thread! We ARE a community, so let's get started! For future reference, this post is oriented towards team based games. I'm going to assume you have experience withe most weapons, classes and game types in destiny and try not to over explain the basics. But this is my first post on the matter and I can't cover everything just yet, so let's start with the most basic and fundamental function in every mode in destiny: the gun fight. The objective of a gunfight is to walk away. Keep that in mind. Do not mistake this with getting killed, it is a common misconception. To often is it that a guardian will trade a kill for their own life. If you wound a opponent who runs into enemy lines, don't chase it without support. You can go about most situations in a smart manner rather then the violent impulse. The same kill you traded could have been three or four if you do it right...most of the time. Assume these are not worst case scenarios where your the only player on your team. Unless it would be stupid not to chase the kill, back off when you know it's worth it. Retreat is a sign of wisdom, not cowardice. That being said, you need to be able to asses the situation and make a intelligent plan of action based on the information around you such as the environment(such as a line of sight you can use instead of placing yourself in danger),teammates(such as whether your team can back you up if things get messy) and opponents(such as whether or not it is still possible to complete the kill without making it void die to your own death). Crucible is a battle of score, and getting killed is working against your team. To little of people realize that your 20 kills don't matter if you died 30 times. That being said, not every fight is winnable. To many variables are in place to have a end-all-beat-all plan of action to walk away from every encounter. Respawns are just apart of the game. You approach a target to kill them and gain points. If you need to kill some one to walk away, do so. If you are about to lose, don't wet you're pants and give up. Drop as much damage as you can on the enemy combatants and trust your team will reap your efforts. Even leading your killer closer to your team(or farther if need be) to give your team a greater chance/advantage is just as good as getting the kill yourself in the grand scope if things. Now that we understand why we are engaging in a gunfight and what our goal is, we can get down to business. Boys and girls, it's all on the head. Quite possibly the easiest place to miss thanks to recoil is the only place you need to hit. In destiny, getting head shots provide a crit which significantly amplifies your damage and will give you an advantage in a fight. But you already know that, the question is how do I hit them when their gliding and jumping and sliding and moving. Well, finding your weapon of choice, learning it's stats and becoming competent with it is really all I can say. It's called skill, and it's a trait obtainable by all who can learn. Every primary weapon is capable of head shots, but learn when to aim lower due to distances so you can account for recoil. In addition, don't stick in your sights for every shoot out. Your much more agile firing from the hip. If your either 5 or so meters(your enemy is in the center of your radar) then might be a great time to forget accuracy and start making sure you hit them. Anything else about gunfights is either too basic to cover or has slipped my mind. I will post another segment of tips and tricks assuming enough people take a liking to this and find it helpful. I know others have poster guides, but I never find them detailed enough. I hope you slay many foes with these tips and look forward to your feed back. -The Red Titan

EDIT: Your kd ratio is 1.21, and you only play control/clash (the easiest gametypes to get a very good kd ratio). . . are you sure you should give advice. I want to read it but the only tips you need to know is - -get max level -use radar -be careful of melee -use appropriate weapons when fighting at distances ie use a shotgun when walking around corners. -don't rush rooms, they usually camp doorways with supers ready. its that easy. The rest is practise.

    • Here we are again to lay down some fundamental PVP/Crucible tips and tricks guys. Welcome back, and for this post I will be going over your greatest tool that destiny has to offer: your radar. Armed with a precognitive view of a fight is a unrivaled advantage that all guardians share, and that's what it is, Precognitive(seeing the future). How? Well when your radar tells you that an enemy is in the next room, it is up to you to decide your next course of action to counter that information. Without the radar destiny would be prey to campers in hordes of thousands. But the radar will not do your job for you. After you read the data that your radar tells you, it's time to think. Not act, think. If you see a opponent is to your left, but only a rock lies to your left, it's safe to assume your enemy is behind the rock. So go kill him, right? Wrong. Everyone must know right now that the radar is a double bladed sword, and thus balances out. Every player has a radar and every radar has the same range. This means that whenever you see your opponent, they see you too. The impulse in this scenario is to engage the enemy, but many more productive strategies can be placed to increase your odds of victory. Due to the fact that most times players head for the enemies on their radar, if they don't continue to move closer, it's time to think. Are you in a area where a shotgun would floor you if you continued, or opening where a sniper can peg you. If your opponent does not engage, assume they have formulated a strategy in an attempt to kill you. This is war and a great time to be paranoid. Counter their move with your own like flushing them out with a grenade or luring them out. This is what I call 'radar wars'. It's the battle of wits that happens based on the infirm action given by the combatants radar. Don't get to caught up in the action and never check your radar. That's your third eye and tool more useful then even your super. If you fell I missed something about the radar that wasn't basic knowledge, fell free to add it in. In addition, let me know if this was helpful or not so I have some ideas on how to improve. -The Red Titan
