Titans, were the greek pantheon's total d*cks, fighting and losing the war against the awesome and just gods, the Olympians.
Warlocks, in the legends of old and in modern fantasy, are those who corruptively use magic destructively instead of creatively.
Hunters, away from the usually heroic Rangers, are predatorial. As in Hunter is the literal equivalent of predator, someone who kills or traps prey.
All of the guardian classes have names that in history and fiction is usually reserved for the antagonists, not the protagonists. The name and description of "bad guys". Additionally, our ONLY meaningful interaction with other intelligent species in our solar system is to kill them. An undead army of killers.
Sure, the alien races have attacked us, but did they really?
The Hive seems wretched and zombie-like to us, but their most capable fighters are classified as their Acolytes and Knights that fight their battles. Their leaders are Exalted, with titles like Wizards and Princes. Does the Hive see themselves as noble? Are they seeing themselves how we view the legends of Arthur and Merlin, chasing down The Traveller, an ancient foe, to bring peace to the galaxy once again?
How about The Fallen? Did they lose their Empire to the ravages of The Traveller, their own personal Hitler? Does The House of Kings and The House of Winter lead the final hunt, with their Captains, their Servitors, their Lords and their Primes in a valiant chase that they hope will echo in their legends for eons when the traveller and it's undead army is finally defeated?
How about the Vex? They can't be good, can they? An organic race of religious robots, going to Venus to protect something they consider at least a Guru, and at most a God. Wouldn't humanity be as forceful to claim a holy relic? Wouldn't humanity be angered when the relic was destroyed, during prayer? I bet parts of humanity, the humanity we know, would to exactly the same.
At this point it should be unecessary to point out the valiant vanguard, the Space Marines of the known alien universe, The Cabal. Bravely fighting hostile aliens, chasing down the evil that is The Traveller, with their mighty, well trained, brave army. Their legionarys, centurions, phalanxes, psions and colossi. Under the banner of any Primus, they seem hell-bent on putting and end to the evil magic of the Traveller, it's evil undead army (us) and anyone else who comes in the way.
Each faction in Destiny could have a game or a series of books of their own, their own noble purposes, and we do not have a clue. Warlocks, Hunters and Titans, the unholy, undead army, infused with the mysterious powers of the lifeless Traveller. Are we the badguys? Are we the D*cks of the universe?
What do you think? Please come with suggestions either way.
Personally, I think this way of looking at it is pretty cool.

1 ReplyI've thought about this a lot and I'm still hoping that we're the good guys/gals. If The Speaker lied to me this whole time... I could tell you what I would do to him, I could tell you how many bullets I would riddle his corpse with, I could tell you, but I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain on why I'm not telling you.

2 RepliesOne thing that first got me into thinking this way was - When ever you headshot a Fallen, light gushes out from where thier head was.... So were the fallen the original keepers of the light? or are they still keepers of the light? Are they the Light?, Made of light?, Born of light? ...So many questions from a sigle animation....

1 ReplyEdited by tetsuro08: 10/6/2014 6:24:19 AMI just hope we get a chance in the future to choose a side. I can't wait to go dark and wage a war on the tower and kill that metaphor making bstrd the speaker

Who wants to be the good guy all the time anyways? Don't tell me you always had good karma in Fallout I don't care about being good or bad as long as I'm a badass character

2 RepliesEdited by Tricky5hift: 10/4/2014 6:16:23 PMDude, have you seen these forums? We're probably 50x worse than any enemy in this game or any other game.

This would be an epic plot twist for Destiny 2, and I would love every minute of it. Civil War.

The story all seems biblical, the traveller being a wolf in sheeps clothing or the anti christ, the ghosts being a sort of holy spirit that raises the dead, the speaker being the false prophet that speaks for the beast (anti Christ), the game also has a lot of references to wolfs. I also heard that the original story before the lead writer left that the end boss was actual the traveller and you fight inside of him and destroy his heart, and he was the one that ended the golden age. There was also the rumour that the hive took pieces of the traveller in order to bring it back to life. It could still go these route seeing how the speak just says " I could tell you" but he doesn't actual say anything.

there are millions of dregs out there, but how many guardians did those dregs kill? meanwhile 1 guardian kills a truckload in 1 hour.
-
1 ReplyI think the ghosts are going to turn out to ultimately be the heroes, and the Guardians are just that - Guardians. they "guard" the ghosts, which is why ghosts seek out their own Guardians, and it also explains why The Traveler would use its last bit of strength to create the ghosts - because they are our last bastion of hope. If you want to use cheesy action movie comparisons, the Ghosts are the nerdy scientists or engineers or whatever, that needs to defuse the bomb or hack into the security systems to stop a virus from uploading, and we are the elite soldiers assigned to protect him, and make sure he can get it done.

1 ReplyGod I hope so. And I hope the vanguard are the illuminati shadow government from the US and the traveller is something Obama created. USA #1

8 RepliesA very interesting theory that's been around for a while. What if someday we have to choose sides? What if some day guardians fight against each other in a civil war?
-
I love this! I haven't even thought of stuff like this, I did wonder if maybe you get to choose at some point if you go light or dark, you know with the obvious 'Destiny' thing and then the stuff that stranger said. But yeah.. enjoyed reading this. :D

I love this post because it actually makes the Destiny lore mean more. Some of it makes sense. Everybody seems to forget that the darkness is why there is a " Last City" on earth. It also seems that to be a Guardian.and have the special powers, you have to be reborn with the light of the Guardian. So who you were doesnt matter. The one thing though that I have to disagree with completely is the Vex. The vex are turning planets into machines. That is bad guy shit right there. Also the cabal blow up planets..lol. So...I think what is really going on here is the Traveler picking the race that is the weakest and getting their asses kicked (humans) and turning us lose to seek the most villanous revenge. Hence the names Titan, Warlock and Hunter. Our fight to survive and be noble leads to relentless pursuit of murder and payback. I think the Fallen do hold the key to this story. They have structure in thier ranks. Early in the game you also find out that earth is Fallen territory only after humans are gone.

1 ReplyI cannot say for certain one-way or the other, but I know i didn't feel too good about myself on the mission where you are sent deep into the hive's colony to shoot up a church service and then blow the place up after you're done killing all the worshippers and decons. Moreover, the fact is that the Vex clearly lived on these planets first (according to the narrative), so we are really just squatters that won't leave (and, in fact, are violently resisting being removed). Really, there are quite a few of these examples that make us seem like the bad guys, traveler or no.
-
I was thinking this too! I feel that there's just something about the speaker that's off. He has a more sinister purpose and were doing the dirty work, we just don't know it and were being fed lies! Just because we fight for the "light" doesn't make it justifiable to go around killing other things even if it's the so called darkness. Maybe the vex just caught up in the middle
when we destroyed their god at the end
And everyone else had nothing to do with it
-
1 ReplyI've actually felt this way for a while. Explains why they keep us stupid and uninformed throughout the "story". Also, the Stranger's warning to pick a side, even if it's the wrong one, makes me feel like we've picked the "wrong" side with the Traveler. Or maybe we really are the good guys, and this is another case of humans finding patterns where there are none. :p

2 RepliesI don't entirely follow the Titan argument. Just personally in my mind. Yes mythology painted titans as the bad guys, but titans are the parents of the Gods, and the children turned on the parents. Personal feelings aside, For mythological and argument sake yes titans would be the bad guys. Warlock actually comes from another word in old English that means in league with the devil. Satan aka Lucifer, and the devil was also an angel before he fell. They called him beautiful and the "morning sun" so light, or bright isn't always "good". The cards in the grimore say the travelers old enemy was the darkness long before it came to earth. Then it sacrificed itself to save us when the darkness showed up. It doesn't all add up in my mind. Why would something that strong come after us first instead of its own past enemy? So this brings me to another card. Some people believe (in the world of destiny) that the traveler is using us as a proxy army against the darkness. The traveler plans to sacrifice us and our solar system to buy time. Destiny is basically what will happen in the future. It doesn't always mean we get a choice. We don't know what our destiny is yet. Traveler has a final meaning that most people don't know about. Traveler: part of a mechanism designed to move in a fixed course. Sometimes destiny is considered a fixed course. I could be looking into things way to much, but really names are the only solid things we have.

Edited by CAPTAIN BUMOUT: 10/6/2014 5:33:21 AMIf you look at the wording of most of the missions and comments made by characters in the game we had better be the bad guy... If we're the good guys that's an interesting view Bungie has for their customer base Edit: and I'd swear one of the fallen said "fist pump" right before I shot him #conspiracy

Well seeing as Guardians are really nothign but glorified bounty hunters
-
1 Replyso they should have named us like the soldier, the illusionist, and the gardener? lol ; )
-
1 ReplyThen again, are WE the guardians of the galaxy?
I am Groot.
-
1 ReplyEvery time I walk into a room of "bad guys" praying or just sitting down on the ground, I feel bad about killing them. Plus we do all the attacking!!!

I wish I could convert to the darkness it might be less repetitive.
