Let's break this down. A Seraph is an angelic being that belongs to the highest of Christian hierarchies. The Seraphim (which means fiery, burning ones) are those of the seraphs who reside over god, there are seven of them. The Seraphs are basically beings that worship god indefinitely. Perhaps the Traveler? What they fail to do with this is that there are not Seven seraphs...there are Seven Archangels. They just messed up on one point. The Seven Seraphs are strange because there are not inherently Seven of them, there are many. Not to mention the logo resembles a wing. They could perhaps be the seven initial worshipers of the Traveler! The Speaker could be one of those, thus he COULD be the leader of said group. He does wear black and white while adding on the fact that he hides his face...very suspicious. The Seraphim Vault could perhaps be a place where the Seven Seraphs during the golden age stored their many treasures. The weird thing is, from what I've seen of the vault in videos...it is pretty much empty. Why would they keep an empty vault located in Old Russia? There are Seven Holy Archangels *look at picture above*. Each one signifies a day of the month. This also refers to the initial 7 Sins that are named in the Bible. 7 is a holy number. Now before we get all religious let me just say...Bravo Bungie...Bravo. This has got to be one of the most elaborate things I've ever seen in a video game. The Seven Seraphs are an allusion to one of the most divine numbers in Christianity. Therefore the Seven Seraphs could be a group that worships the Traveler indefinitely. Or perhaps the Seven warminds.

The Seven warminds could be the Seven Archangels. Each one alluding to a certain one. Perhaps Rasputin is a representation of one of those Archangels? While the others allude to another of the angels. Now to clarify, the Archangels are the angels who have reached the highest rank as a angel. While the Seraphim and the Cherubim (another class of angel similar to the Seraphim) are the lesser angels who are close to the top and worship God. Hope you guys liked my lesson in this very controversial topic. Take what you like and leave the rest because this...after all...is just a theory.

  • Two points to add: *The 7 deadly sins are opposed by 7 heavenly virtues *The Speaker is dead, and has a Ghost of his own just like us Guardians I'm very much liking where this is going. :)

I'm liking the idea of the seraphs being the warminds. The seraphim vault in the beta was connected to bunker RAS-2, a play on words of Rasputin, old russia's warmind. The other known warmind is Charlemagne, who also has a vault (it was said to be the place you find thorn). If all the warminds have seraphim vaults where they are housed, it only makes sense that theyd be the seraphs.

The only problem with that is there are not Seven Seraphs specifically, there are many Seraphs. There are only Seven Seraphim...the Seven holy Archangels that reside under god as his powers that be. Looks like Bungie might of messed up on their fact checking. :p

  • Well you're still assuming they based it entirely on biblical facts. The warminds all have seraphim vaults. Perhaps the warminds are actually archangels and there are there are individuals assigned to each one as caretakers, and those people are the seraphs. Its a stretch, but could make sense.

  • Yeah that does make sense. But if your going to allude to the Bible you could at least get it ALL correct. However the Seraphs and Seraphim are one and the same. The Archangels are however a different kind of angels in themselves. They are both not of the same group...which is very strange considering there are Seven Archangels but not Seven Seraphs, there are many Seraphs. Why not change the name to the Seven Archangels? :l

  • Maybe once upon a time there were more? And that Seven Seraphs is a reference to the ones that remain?

  • Because Seven Archangels doesn't have a nice ring to it. They dumbed it down and combined the archangels and seraphs to be synonymous.
