Throwing a large DDoS attack on servers isn't Hacking. It's like clogging a toilet and can happen to anyone and just because it didn't happen to you yet doesn't mean it can't. And to the ones who don't know what DDoS is, it is Distributed Denial-Of-Service: Form of electronic attack involving multiple computers, which send repeated HTTP requests or pings to a server to load it down and render it inaccessible for a period of time.
Edit: Since some people aren't very bright lets dig a little deeper.
A website is technically a "service", a software-based system that responds in a particular way to incoming requests from client software—in this case a web browser. But a web browser's requests can be easily faked. A web server can only respond efficiently to a certain number of requests for pages, graphics and other website elements at once. Exceed that number, and it bogs down. Go too far, and the system may become entirely unresponsive. Huge floods of traffic, whether legitimate or not, can thus cripple a server. While DoS attacks do not usually result in information theft or any security loss for a company, they can cost an organization both time and money while their network services are down. For the hacker (or the script kiddies who often use DoS attacks), a DoS attack is usually committed for "ego boosting" purposes.
No server is safe!
Anyone can do this by simply downloading the software and logging in. It's a little more to it but I won't go into detail because we don't need more script kiddies.
The reason I put #uneducatedfanboys in my post is because a fanboy's mind is clouded by the item their a fan of and won't bother with trying to understand why I posted this.

I know it isn't a hack, we all just refer to it as hacking AS AN ABBREVIATION AND BECAUSE IT'S EASIER TO UNDERSTAND AND TALK ABOUT. It's like when people get angry when you say things like gg or banter or even lol.

Yeah, no shit OP. *Scrolls down* What the -blam!- is this? EVERYONE HERE IS A RETARD EXCEPT FOR ME

It's funny how proud this "Fame" kid is of himself. He seems awfully happy about all the attention he's getting.
-
the ddos attacks are like the pre-orders of the destiny ghost edition. To many request made it unavailable to some people.
-
The more you know
-
Didn't anonymous do this to that church website a while ago? I know that was illegal.
-
Good lord, the replies in this thread are pathetic. Good on you OP, I hope at least some people got something out of the info you posted.
-
nothing like fake hackers to give real hackers/good hackers (ones that don't hack to hurt people) a bad name a Ddos happens oh lets blame hackers they just want to destroy everything
-
Is it possible to stop or even prevent a DDoS? I mean what if these people keep doing it?
-
Microsoft had warning while The PSN/SOE, LoL and blizzard/battle net did not. They were attacked but were able to fend of the attack. Don't stroke your own egos, MS servers would have gone down like the others had they not had warning
-
Why has this not happened to Xbox? I don't understand.
-
ive been ddos attacked on cod

It is still technically a hack - by distributive properties. Most DDoS use but nets which are systems compromised by a 'hack'. Also it can be a part of hacking into a system. Basically keeping the firewall and other processes so busy, that they don't notice a hole open and someone sneak in. One popular method is to use the attack to slow down the authentication servers and then use an old admin password or one harvested from the compromised network traffic to then gain internal access. So tldr it's a hack because a hack was used to make it possible and also could be part of a hacking process

Edited by Twitch.TV/Ghostbuddy: 8/25/2014 7:31:21 PMThe only problem with your OP is the implicit insinuation that all servers, websites, or web services are equally vulnerable, and absolutely nothing can be done about DoS attacks, this is absolutely false. It is entirely possible to decrease the probability of a successful DoS attack, or to partially fend one off. Infrastructure capable of maintaining higher server loads or scaling automatically based on demand, having staff or automated systems capable of temporarily shutting down specific services or features being targeted disproportionately, automatically blocking traffic from certain sources, sending packets designed to trick the machines sending the queries to stop, working with ISP's to do the same upstream, or otherwise retaliating against a party launching a DDoS.

Someone is butthurt cus their playstation is down and xbox isn't and they have nothing better to do than talk shit about xbox on forums lol
-
Thanks for the tip I was wondering what happened. As long as they don't do that shutdown the ps network like they did before.
-
It's still illegal regardless.

What's next? You're gonna tell us that downloading RAM isn't true?
-
Xbox is not having issues dude I've been playing with my friends all day none of us had any issues nor have I heard about anyone else having issues.
-
Even with multithreading their servers are still vulnerable :<

Someone's been playing too much Watch Dogs...
