"Casuals" don't hate "Competitive" gamers. They hate the matter-of-fact attitude that PvP is the be all, end all of gaming and that any game that doesn't bend over backwards to tailor to the competitive community is an utter failure. You can't show up to a game that is arguably from the beginning been PvE-centric and get in a huff that the game isn't PvP enough. You knew that walking in. It was on a sign at the door. It was written on the invitation and repeated on the RSVP. PvP is a slice of the pie. It's not the entire pie. That is why "casuals" get pissy at competitive players. Because they are all showing up at the last minute, acting like they own the place, and can't be bothered with learning about what kind of game Destiny actually is.

  • I am just confused as to the fact that pve players would object to anything being done to pvp that has no effect to them, as they will not play pvp. That is why you guys get called care bears. Here you have clans saying something for YOUR benefit. So you solo players can enjoy pvp without getting stomped to a puddle. and all I've heard is "This game is about PVE. (no shit!) About becoming your own legend. yadda yadda. What legend? We all ride the same ride. lol We are all legendary. We are all special. oooooh. Again you would think as we were asking open world pvp. Which we are not. We are asking our slice of the pie. OUR SLICE. Cause the whole pie ain't PVE. but you all wish it was, but bungie loves pvp. which after watching vid again.. I did get the impression that private might get added later. Just a bummer its not in at start. Will we cancel our orders? No. We will enjoy going in try hard on PVE just as we will on pvp. we will pub stomp.

  • Amen, these carebears are a damn plague to any genre look how MMOs are in shambles. We will SMASH these noobs relentlessly because of the lack of private matches or a ranking system. They will be forced to play the same missions over and over again because anything in the crucible will be a -blam!-ing slaughter. Then they will learn to stfu and stay in there lane.

  • But if you only play pvp then the exotics are harder for you to find. Bungie said the best gear is found in pve.

  • I think it's the mentality that if they focus too much on PvP, the PvE experience will be dumbed down. Sometimes that's true, with smaller studios, but Bungie is pretty big and they have separate groups of people working on PvP and PvE. Sometimes it seems like PvP is being worked on more than PvE because PvE is relatively easy to balance. The only variable in that is you. In PvP is more conplicated, people start using things creatively, using things how it's bot suppose to be used or as Bungie intended it. That's why there are so many Betas for MP games and constant patches in games likes BF and CoD. Where one glitch in PvE can make things a little less frustrating for you, the same glitch in a PvP environment can break the whole experience for everyone else.

  • I honestly don't care one way or the other about adding features. I'm simply answering the question. The reason there's a lingering resentment is because there are some in the competitive community that act like the only thing in the world that matters is PvP and that anything shy of making Destiny "MLG" and eSports friendly is a complete failure.

Catering to just one would be a mistake. I enjoy the pve. cause that's where I just hang out with my RL friends that are also clan mates. Plus story so far is interesting. Just didn't get the backlash for requesting something that would not effect pve and would benefit Solo or two man teams. Not all clans sign up for MLG or tourneys. They just like to face other clans in house.

  • Thanks, USplendid. Excellent argument pointing out the highly PvE centric nature of Destiny and that people are forgetting this. I'd also point out that some of this also comes out of nostalgia for features from the Halo days when PvP was what provided the game legs and long term appeal because Halo was releasing every 3-4 years. With Destiny we are getting content updates frequently, 2 DLC's are already announced with the first hitting in Dec. Destiny has plenty long legs that aren't exclusively tied to PvP, but mostly to PvE.

  • I bought this game for the PvE. I have joined up with the competitive crowd. We've been following this game since the getgo and know that PvE is a huge focus. But so is PvP, a la the trailer release focusing on PvP and the PvP focus at Gamescom. We don't act like we own anything. We know what Destiny is about. Private matches do not just cater to competitive players, they cater to everyone who enjoys relaxing with their friends killing each other. PvP is a slice. PvE is a slice. I don't care what part of the game you want to play. You can do what you wish, when you wish, with whomever you wish. Not adding something to cater to one crowd without any detriment to another is just unnecessary.

  • I have to agree with you, but remember there are those in both sides that believe they are entitled to what they want is a lost of comprehension and humility.

  • Just because you don't set the rules doesn't mean it's not competitive.

  •
the pve is great too but will get old after a while
That right there is an example. You assume that the PvE aspect will get old and stale for everyone, and that is far from the case.

  • considering i beat the moon mission in 5 minutes with two friends on the harder difficulty its going to get old. and the lvl 12 knights in the moon mission werent a problem either when our lvl was capped at 8. it will get old and boring

  • Now what if you were lvl 6 and played it on hard. What if it took longer to gain lvl's so had to work at getting each one. Me and my friend play in hard at lower lvl's and it was. The moon stage was hard lvl 9. Only was one lvl above the cap making it really not that hard for player to blasted through.

  • This is validating what he said man, you do not know what the pve will have in store. I would say stop acting like this is COD, it is not nor is it battlefield. You have the option of PVP, did you at least play the beta and enjoy it a bit? Now you are going to have even more options for PVP, but the company has decided to trim back some of the mainstays for pvp for what ever reason. Maybe this will stick maybe they plan on patching things in as the feel the become needed. Either way stop acting like this game is going to be only 15hrs of gameplay, like most fps games.
