MMO community bleeding over to my beloved fps
So I have played fps games since 007 golden eye and what I noticed is the fps community is vibrate PvP community that welcomes competetive play. I mean traditional FPS ONLY have about 10-12 hours of actual game play so the majority of players buy an FPS just for the multiplayer...
Problem I see in the foreseeable future is these carebears coming from MMOs trying to impose their will on our beloved Fps. Look at MMOs now, you seriously get alienated and penalized just for pvping.. 90percent of the content is pve oriented and they never seem to care to balance the PvP. Further more the breed of players complain and bitch about almost everything.. Picture a 40year old man dressing up as a wizard in his.moms basement on weekends playing dungeons and dragons... That's the guy that's going to flood these forums.
Solution don't give this plague the time of day or our FPS world will suffer the same fate.

They want to attract gamers of all walks to this. With that said: All elements of a game are important and noteworthy, but we as a group an community need to be vocal about it. Want something in particular? Post about it. Want to have more fun in a general element? What would you do if you were Bungie employees? Lastly, keep it civil. It isn't difficult. It's just a video game.

11 RepliesWell speaking as a old school dice gamer, former MMO player, and an FPS enthusiast I am slightly offended by your stereo typing but I could really care less about what you think of me. Bungie though has put in some amazing balancing elements in to Destiny, with all gear having the same attack and defence rating in regular crucible to evens the playing field for casual PvPers. While things like the Iron band and some of the other setups they have cater more to the hardcore PvPer. Not too mention the very nature of FPS PvP is so drastically different from that of most MMOs that the same complaints can't be made. Over all I think your worried about something that really isn't going to be a problem at all. Bungie as done a great job balancing PvP to keep people from whining no matter what gaming background they might have.

That the FPS community is going to flood into this RPG element and 12 year old boys that believe using the "f" word and racial slurs makes them sound more adult will constantly post in here (actually, that part has already happened. Not this post, but plenty of others). From an MMORPG veteran's perspective, FPS players are egocentric children incapable of dedicating more than an hour or two of their time toward a collective goal that rage quit and believe anyone better than them is hacking. The truth, of course, lies in the middle. Immature pre-teens play MMORPGs and 40 year olds in their mother's basements play FPS games. The silent majority consist of adults who utilize games (of either type) as a passtime when they're not at work or out and about. That said, I don't know that I can fully agree with your stance that they don't care to balance the PvP - we've seen a single build and they have stated in their updates that they've made damage changes, especially to vehicles. I find it hard to criticize the developers when their product isn't even out on the shelf. I highly doubt that we're going to see CoD, Battlefield, Planetside, and any other "pure" FPS game change their structure if Destiny does well - they know where their bread is buttered. I firmly believe that Destiny has the opportunity to more directly affect RPG developers by showing that "open worlds" in a shooter with cooperative, instanced missions can work well for a mainstream, long-term FPS game.

I will enjoy Destiny for being such a multifaceted game with a ton of stuff to do including, but no it limited to PvP, and a whole crap ton of PvE and story. So while I enjoy the whole game, you play your precious PvP and miss out on the real part of the game. Lol... Playing FPS for 7 years and thinks he knows something... Most of us have been gaming longer than you have been alive... Edit... I am tired and apparently misread original post... My bad... Edit... I haven't been playing fps for 7 years... You have... My point was I have been gaming longer than you have been alive... There are other games out there than FPS that I enjoy as well... Although I have been playing fps for longer than 7 years, just not recently, and again, I am average at best... I have no problem with that either.

Well then looks like your trying to play the wrong game bro. Obviously this is a game focused on pve. And look at borderlands that had almost no pvp st all and did great. So if you want a fps that is only pvp maybe you should go play one of the 20 that are out right now. Titanfall I have only heard great things about you should try that. Or the usual cod and bf stuff

Edited by ShellsGhost: 8/6/2014 1:28:02 AMFPS PvP is only fun for about a month once you unlock all the guns. Prestige is there to trick you into having fun doing the same thing all over. It's only fun when you're playing with all your friends so you can talk about who got whom with a kill streak. I like MMO PvP more because the different classes and builds gives a much more dynamic feel to the engagement. You can tank heal or support your team in other ways. Aside from open world stuff, which I don't care for as much, it's not possible to really win a game single handedly. You need your team and I feel as endgame PvP emerges that will begin to blossom in Destiny as well. Also Carebears are pretty legit. They shined down their light in force on whoever dared to mess with them. And everyone got in on it. Even that narcoleptic one that slept all the time got in on the Carebear stare practically every episode. Except for the one free for all mode all the PvP variants are team based. Lets hope people can work together like the Carebears did.

Not trying to start shit but are you mad about the PvP or PvE aspect of the game? I mean it caters to both. I can see the cod,battlefield,counterstrike hardcore gamers playing the PvP side of it and the rest of the fun people playing PvE side with a little of both playing both.

1 ReplyWell in all fairness Destiny was not sold as just a fps pvp. Hence the reason why others will enjoy it. Hence why I am not buying it because it's not the game for me which is ok. If you don't feel Destiny is your type of game you don't have to get it.

You sound judgmental and entitled. This is a new type of game being made by people who are making it exactly the way they want to. If you can only play games that meet your criteria perfectly, then it sounds like this game isn't for you. My advice? Play the game, focus on the parts you find to be fun, and I think you'll find it's easy to be forgiving of the elements you're not so fond of. Worst case scenario--you play some other game you like more.

i can't tell you how many times i get the full gamerscore on a FPS campaign before i even touch the multiplayer. and on top of that, i then only stick to the mutliplayer for a month. exception being Halo, since that's we all jump on to bullshit and drink beer. the reason YOU get alienated is pretty much clear in your OP. have fun not getting to enjoy the game with others.
