Not buying it, a real female player would have used the term female character. A pre-pubescent teenage boy would use the term girl.
That said, I hope there are more female gamers joining real video game play (sorry Candy Crush players - that's not a video game. Sorry senior citizen's neither is Solitaire.)
The reality is that female characters in games such as these are predominately played by teenage boys, that want to elicit reactions from other teenage boys.

Hang on a minute i'm almost a senior citizen (54) and i play all the games you youngsters do and i'm a WOW/EVE vet.

No worries, I'm 43 myself ;-) You're a gamer and should be counted as a gamer for the general crowed and not someone who plays only super casual games. But you got to admit, we're the acception for people in their 40's and 50's and it's almost unheard of for people in there 60's and above to be a real gamer.
