I definitely think it should stay random. I saw a guy get an epic ship in one game (Birth of History), middle of the pack player. My reaction, after seeing constant crap rewards with the occasional useless green, was "you have a chance at that?!" instead of, what seems to be the majority, complaining it didn't go to the top player. It makes them chase items to come back again and again for. Now it is annoying that people can get an item without participation. There should be vote to kick options and maybe tie the rewards to any of a few medals that are easy to get but require actual team participation (like Objectively Correct or Merciless to reward either objective hounds and/or killers).
