First off - love the post. Thanks for the PARODY. I don't know why some others failed to miss it. Destiny is, by far, one of the most difficult FPS I've ever played. I am literally 10 pounds lighter because my nether regions have been completely cut off, wrapped in pretty paper, and given back to me with a heaping dose of "You suck." And I love it that way. I think that too many games cater to the person that is not willing to invest the time into it to develop the skills necessary to excel. Only one person actually gets to win a race. It's designed this way to force the rest of us to stop being mediocre and ramp up our race skills. Same here. I'm not a FPS master - I've gotten old and my 'twitch" no longer works so well. However, I will be extremely disappointed if the game is "dumbed down". To the victor go the spoils, and this game belongs in the hands of the frothy FPSer just as it is!

  • Understood. For me, I've been beta testing games, both semi-professionally and on the amateur level like here (as in, being paid to beta test) for a good three decades now. One of the things I see way too often is a good game that is "ruined" in order to make the game more accessible to the overall population. But every now and then, you don't need another mini van for the soccer mom. There needs to be some Ferraris and Lamborghinis, to speak metaphorically. Gaming vehicles that don't cater to the masses, but cater to the enthusiasts. I feel that this game is such a game, and I want to see it continue to be that gorgeous sports car, even if it is outside of my own abilities to drive it to its capabilities.

  • You don't think this game caters to noobs, what?! Everyone has a ONE shot weapon on them at all times, these take drastically less skill then your primary weapons. Supers are a get out of jail free card, especially the titan's. How old are you if this is one of the hardest games you've ever played? I'm fast losing my faith in humanity.

  • This has nothing to do with faith in humanity (at least, not until you posted your infantile diatribe, which did not make me lose my faith in humanity, only confirmed my disdain for the same). I don't think this game caters to noobs at all. Your super is a "use when appropriate" weapon. I've fired it off with multiple campers on a flag point but that was once. Most of the time I'm dead before I get a chance to. Other than that, the recharge speed keeps it from being the go-to choice. Age doesn't have anything to do with the difficulty of the game. It has to do with reaction times, which puts me about a second or two behind the younger PVP players. I'm usually dead before I even realize they're there. You're a child (I can tell by your childish post). When you get older you will understand. Right now, however, all you can see is yourself.

Love this post! I myself have never liked shooters.. basically because I suck at em and never wanted to invest the time to get better either because.. well I didn't like playing them! and 'round goes the carousel. But this game has implemented elements that DO catch my attention such as RPG elements.. augmenting my capabilities and armor... and even after dying multiple times at level 1, I still wanted to go strong and get better to get, well.. stronger and better! I've been a gamer forever and by all means, I don't usually suck at games but this one has definately made me want to improve myself! Please don't dumb it down, Bungie!!! it's perfect the way it is! (And to the kid above about the one shot weapons... you can't kill every mob with your one shot weapon so get over yourself) Oh and ps. Tiger Dave, please add my to your PS friends.. you sound like someone I'd really enjoy teaming up with! - Hellkath

  • Firstly I'm not a child I'm 23. Secondly supers do cater to noobs. They're random get out of jail free cards. If I am killing a Titan, and he randomly uses his super to kill me that isn't fun; it's just bad gameplay. If this is one of the hardest fps games you've played, then you haven't played too many fps games. Also nice use of the word 'diatribe.' Does using complex vocabulary on a video game forum make you feel sophisticated? Not really the place for vocabulary like that. You could've just said my post was overly critical, or does that not stroke your 'adult ego' as much as words like 'diatribe' do? Man I wish I was grown up enough to use those words in a forum, maybe when I'm 30 years of age.

  • I posted elsewhere asking for a deeper explanation. I never last long enough to trigger the super - I'm continually in Respawn hell. I'm not experiencing what you're experiencing. Supers in my matches that I see rarely come into game, and only in the most knee-jerk of moments. As to my vocabulary, it's part of my every-day conversation style. What you seem to view as "elitism" I view as normal conversation. I don't see it as my flaunting anything over anyone else and I there is no such intent behind the same. I absolutely will not reduce my writing to baseline forum standards (and my punctuation bites ass - too many ellipsis, commas, etc., and I never know where to put the punctuation in regards to parenthesis).

  • not much to offer here but generally the punctuation goes on the outside of the parenthesis (like so). I really don't have any thing else to offer on this dead horse.

  • Thanks! There are some things that I *should* remember, but then there are some things that, even though I may have recently looked up, for some reason never slide into long-term. Parenthesis + punctuation is one of them.

I wasn't trying to be overly critical, although I will concede that my response was a tad immature. I just see the vast amount of potential this game has, and I would love to see that potential realized. If they drastically reduce the amount of special ammo on the map, and have a playlist that doesn't allow supers I would be satisfied.

  • I think there's room for rational discourse in this area. One concern is that for the team that is winning, especially if grossly ahead, this is a way to abuse the dominate position - just like spawn point camping. For the team that is being decimated, supers are a method to shift the initiative. It would be interesting to see an intelligent, self-adjusting cooldown timer that would act as an in-game handicap based upon score results, but you may find that sort of artificial imbalance leading to more median scores. One thing to consider though is that usually the PVP body tends to self-regulate. You will always have the abusers of the system, and if Supers have been deemed over-used in PVP then you should see some balancing. This would be better if we could get about 25 peeps into a room and just have a long discussion - both pros and noobs - to find that perfect sweet-spot that both can agree on.

  • ok I guess it's not a dead horse yet (my bad). You guys are constructively working towards a place of discussion and consideration for each others opinions after a rough start. I think I just heard pigs feet landing on my roof. This is awesome. I'm even more excited that I might actually find people playing Destiny now that will be fun (the first days of XBoxLive) and not just focused on pissin each other off. It used to be fun to kill and get killed. Maybe it can be again.

  • Yeah. I kind of feel bad, but I absolutely will not accept the "norm" of gamer forum posting (usually personal attacks and bashings, poorly explained issues, etc). Unfortunately, it does tend to make me a little sensitive (there is room for argument over my interpretation of the word 'little') on the trigger finger when firing off a response. I was completely wrong in throwing in that last sentence.

  • @Tiger Dave and WarwickWarrior There's no need to go around calling names and boasting about your age. Let's keep the conversation focused on reasonable arguments. Look at competitive communities. Any game with a low skill ceiling or that features an element of randomness that is impossible to account for, generally has a very short life as a competitive multiplayer game. This doesn't necessarily mean the game itself will have a short life, look at COD for example, but it just means it won't gather the long-lasting and robust competitive community that games like Counter-Strike, Halo 2 or SOCOM have. Destiny PVP as it exists in the Beta, has at least one major un-counterable element in it, the "Supers". The ease of achieving one-hit-kills is also a concern due to the who-sees-who-first aspect that it introduces. I personally think fixing auto-aim (i.e. decreasing it's strength) would help fix this. PS. I'm 32 years old, by the way. It really doesn't matter how old you are, as long as your arguments are reasonable.

Fair enough. And not boasting about my age, rather lamenting it. Someone aged 23 should be able to present a more salient argument than Warwick presents. The cool-downs of the supers does not make it a go-to choice. It is a sometimes choice. I am sorry that Warwick is getting manhandled by Titans, but I have seen more deaths to shooting than to Supers. I've been able to pull off this "get out of jail free" card once. PS: I'm 51. When I say my twitch suffers from it, I REALLY MEAN my twitch suffers from it.

  • I completely agree! Supers are actually very situational and are used to turn the tide of battle when used correctly. Yes the titan super makes him virtually unkillable. But what happens when he uses that to save his own ass and suddenly the enemy team has just capped two points and are surrounding your spawn with frightening pressure. Sometimes I might even forget to use my super all game because I feel the situation doesn't call for me to use it. And it's almost like the complaint of shotgun+melee combo. Again it's relatively balanced because there have been many a time where I'm rushing a point, get distracted and get completely owned due to my horrible concentration and awareness of enemies in close proximity. Besides the shotgun is absolutely useless untill the enemies body takes up at least half of your crosshair circle. Too far away your bullets are just gonna bounce of them like a fly to a windshield. Which is where Autorifles come into play and add another dinamic of instead of rushing everything you pace yourself and draw the enemy into your territory where you know you can win. If they are silly enough to fight you at midrange with shotgun vs auto then they deserve to be mowed down. And don't even get me started on how balanced the scout rifles are. Precision mid to long range, anything closer and well... yeah obvious answer. P.S. I'm 19 and I like to think I can hold a coherent and comprehensible argument/conversation. :D
