One big thing I've noticed is that people refer to the crucible as PvP, which I find odd as it's just like CoD, Halo, BF etc, just multiplayer, when I think PvP I think WoW or other MMOs that have actual PvP where gear matters.
We've already seen in Alpha that so far gear is mute and it's skill based.

As others have said whole game is effectively Multi-Player, just mainly Co-Op, so it's different to 'normal' games where you have SP, Co-Op MP and Competitive MP.
-
Because the entire game is multiplayer. PvP is the part of destiny that is Player vs player. If you were to say to a friend "lets play multiplayer on destiny" and you meant pvp he wouldn't know what game mode you're talking about
-
The entire game is multiplayer, so calling it PVP is more descriptive of the Crucible.
-
Because Multiplayer means any game-mode with multiple people in it. PVP or PVE are great terms for separating which forms of multiplayer people are referring to.
-
Because the story mode is multiplayer so PvP (player vs player) sounds more appropriate to define the competitive multiplayer
-
2 RepliesBecause outside of the crucible is multiplayer as well.
-
because everything in the game is multiplayer. It's technically a mmo also. So ppl are gonna use mmo terms
-
Player vs player. Its just easier to say PvP or PvE instead of multiplayer. They mean the same thing so i dont see the big deal.

I think it's because Destiny is a social experience. In games such as CoD, there is a definitive single player campaign that is separate from the multiplayer aspects of the game. I'm Destiny you can be wondering around in a Patrol mission and there is the potential to interact with players wherever you go. There are some areas that are completely Private to you and your Fireteam, but the majority of the game is multiplayer. Everyone calls the Crucible PvP because that's what it is.
-
Because when I play CoD and Halo I do PVP. //

The rest of the game is opt-in coop where the "opt-in" bit can happen before you depart or while you're on the ground. You do meet people out there. Its rare for the time being, but it can and does happen. We can't attack each other on patrols, strikes, or campaign missions so its PvE. The whole game is multiplayer. The whole game uses matchmaking. The Crucible is just the only place with player versus player.
