Heh I honestly thought they would go the Russian/Soviet way with there guided missile destroyers. Ala put on as many missiles as possible to overwhelm fleet defenses.
China appears to be taking the US route of fleet doctrine, which is strange since they only have one aircraft carrier. I suppose they can get away with it because some of there neighbors like Vietnam for example lack a sophisticated navy so it is more than enough, I doubt they think they can engage us or Japan conventionally with these.

On one hand, that's great, but on the other, it'd be kinda cool to see all the new ships go at it. I think the Russians are a bit shortsighted in focusing on missiles, since frigates and CIWS can counteract them pretty well. Then again, the newest destroyer, the Zumwalt, has 4 separate arrays of VLS tubes (but also two guns with homing, exploding ordnance, so that's cool too).
