Why do mmos have those stupid combat system? Planetside 2 is a first person shooter. With a massive amount of players.
Star citizen is a space game/ first person shooter.
Why do mmos have to have stupid combat systems like WOW.

You are comparing apples to oranges here. Planetside is a shooter, not an rpg.

Edited by McRibbitt: 4/9/2014 3:13:37 AM1) PlanetSide 2 is a different kind of MMO, because it's an FPS. Very very very few MMOs are FPS games, and LARGE (mostly all) MMOs are RPGs. 2) Star Citizen is NOT an MMO, as far as my knowledge. The reality is that there's not much out about the game right now to tell. 3) You may think it's retarded, but a lot of people don't mind or even like that kind of combat system. If the combat system was retarded, not as many people would be playing MMOs. I personally don't mind the combat system, although I would obviously prefer something a bit more fluid, but whatever. I haven't actually sat down and got into an MMO in years, not because of the combat system, but because I can't find one that draws me in. If TESO was better and cheaper, I'd probably play that, but I didn't really like it and it's $15 a month, so that's a no. I've tried WoW, didn't like it. Got bored of RuneScape after 4 years. Tried Guild Wars 2, was good for a little while, but got boring very easily, so I haven't played that game in like, a year. I'm really looking forward to EverQuest: Next though. The game looks AWESOME so far, and it's gonna be free to play. A lot of SOE made games are at the very least decent, so I have faith that the game will at least be that. So Once that comes out, gonna start playing that.

1 ReplyTera has nice combat.

If I were to guess why the system was created in the first place my bet would be on latency issues. The system allowed for flashy premade moves that only send a single command to the server but reward the player with something cool to look at. Why we're still stuck with it? If it ain't broke don't fix it, or more aptly, if it makes money, let it.

Thats why I don't play them

1 ReplyActually WoW combat has changed a lot, and really improved. I enjoy it as it does now include movement and tactical gameplay. Number spamming in a dungeon will get you killed. And because it's what works. It's simple, but with enough effort can be deep and engaging as any other game. It really does depend on the devs.

15 Replies...You complain about WoW being a bad MMO though its the most successful MMO ever created...am i missing something?
-
4 RepliesWhy are you playing MMOs for the combat? also Star Citizen is overhyped as -blam!-, and isn't an MMO.
-
6 RepliesWhy play MMOs then. It sounds like there not your cup of tea

1 ReplyAren't all classic MMO combat systems based on/derived from D&D rules?
-
4 RepliesAlso. It's not just number bashing. For example. WoW can be quite hard. You have to be prepared, have glpyhs, the right gear, know what to use, know the fight, know the right rotation. It's not stupid. I guess you're just not good at it.

Lel. You can't handle combat rotations.

15 RepliesEdited by UphillMercury: 4/8/2014 2:58:02 PMOP, have you ever played WoW? If you have, then I'm sure you've noticed that there's more than one ability you use in combat, and certainly more than can be keybound to your average mouse alone. Plus, the nature of many MMOs means that they are often not conducive to a first-person camera. Because of this, having a system to select a target and attack that target alone makes more sense then having to aim and maintain your accuracy while attacking the target. In WoW, especially in high-level raiding, damage output and other forms of role optimization are everything, so sacrificing optimization for an unnecessary FPS mechanic simply does not make sense.

12 RepliesSo basically, you're bitching that games aren't FPS's?
