The boy worked out that entering the wrong password into the log-in screen would bring up a second password verification screen.
Kristoffer discovered that if he simply pressed the space bar to fill up the password field, the system would let him in to his dad's account.
GG MS.

Never underestimate a 5 year old's ability to break shit. A five year old could destroy the most complicated system in the world with just a few crayons and anything sticky.
-
Has it been like this for the whole 360's lifespan?
-
My nephew unlocked an iPod I had forgot the pass code for. Never underestimate them.

Edited by Obi Wan Stevobi: 4/4/2014 6:38:19 PMWow, that's like Windows 98 security. Enter the wrong password then cancel out of the verification and it let you in.
-
Lmao, thats awesome...
-
And I spent two hours on the phone with support. . .

A lot of "secure" content sites have low threshold overdraft quantities. On sites with captcha, if you select the entire page and paste it into the box, it breaks it. Blunt force hacking is crude, but effective.

I saw that, MS gave him $50, 4free games, and a year of live as a reward.
-
........
you'll probably never live this down as a ninja...
My question is.. what the hell is a 5 year old doing on XBL?
-
Is this in regards to parental controls or what? I noticed that they're using the term "Xbox Password", not WLID... so *shrugs*
-
Thanks Obama
-
Damn. Who knew xbl security would be taken down by a 5 year old.
-
I just love stories how kids are able to do the craziest shit
-
How did nobody figure this out before he did?

All those missed opportunities.
-
Now I can get on my daddies account. :)
-
Anonymous better step up their game. There's a new hack master on the rise.
-
heh. did you know that MS was also hacked last year with many people's friends list being deleted before MS solved the issue and reverted profile statuses?
-
No one will be safe from him...
-
Pretty cool. Sad that a 5 year old figured it out though.
-
Can I just highlight that this kid was FIVE!? Billions of dollars of security was defeated by a five year old... Okay, that's unfair, it was basically luck and the naivety of a child, anyone else would never have thought of such a simple loophole, but it's still embarrassing for MS, that being said, I like their reaction, always good when companies credit those who genuinely helped them out.
