imgur album If you backed OR during the Kickstarter, feel free to derive some satisfaction from seeing him get downvoted to hell. Brief summary: -Turned down other parties, the Facebook thing clicked -Gaming resources will be expanded -OR will operate independently -Gaming will, if only out of necessity, be the Rift's biggest feature -No Facebook login required -Indie focus will be increased due to more funding -Rift will be kept as open as possible -Having a long-term owner gives you more freedom than short-term investors Unsurprisingly, the main takeaway is that Oculus VR now has the money to do everything it needs to: hire better people, buy better parts, bring down costs, and vastly expand their developer relations. If you have a small amount of money, you can only focus on incubating a small number of games. For now, Oculus will also remain pretty much independent of Facebook, staying with open technology and not requiring any kind of Facebook login. Finally, it's important to understand the benefit of having an owner over an investor. Investors are focused on getting the most out of their money and getting out, and this makes them stick more to short-term decisions that can conflict with the kind of long-term potential Rift has. Owners are focused on developing a long-term vision, since they're now wholly responsible for the company. Obviously, these things can change; however, it seems like we now have a good barometer of where Oculus is moving. If Luckey is with the company, things are going okay. If he quits, things are not so great.

When its finally released. Everyone will come crawling back. Although its a lot of PR speak, I don't think the Facebook brand are going to have that much of a stamp on it, they just see the potential for VR and want a piece of the pie. Of course eventually you will be able to use Facebook on it. But I cant see it being anymore intrusive than xbox Facebook, just a random app that you can use if you want.
Obviously, these things can change
No shit. I predict for the worst. This is their plan. Just make a simple acquisition, parade it around like it's nothing but the original company having a new boss and then BAM! two years down the road Zuckerburger decides that he just wants to watch a good thing die a slow death and -blam!- the company over in an excuse to gut it. Tell me the last time a big company buying up a good site was good for the original site? Yahoo? "We're not going to change anything with tumblr." Except try their -blam!-ing best to get rid of all the porn and kiddy proof the site by blacklisting pages. Google? "HEY! DID YOU KNOW ABOUT GOOGLE+? HERE! LET US LINK YOUR FULL NAME TO YOUR YOUTUBE PROFILE AUTOMATICALLY SO THE ENTIRE WORLD KNOWS YOUR NAME!" UNDO IT? WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT? SILLY GOOSE." Pic related.

    • Facebook owns them. They can say one thing and do a 180 the next day.

      • Still doesn't explain Facebook's decision to buy it. I have to agree with Notch from Minecraft, "Facebook is creepy". Considering he created the Creeper, that's saying something.

            • I have made a short, sweet little message. Something that you all need to say to anyone that is still in doubt about all this. If Mark wanted to help Oculus. Why didn't he do it through kickstarter like everyone else?

It's basically dead in the water now, the only company I could see causing more of an uproar would be EA.

                      • And his words fell upon a deaf internet. If he ever had a thought of selling an OR, those sales projections just plummeted if the internet is any litmus test.

That's the $2billion talking. Sony is in such a good position right now, but sadly for me the Morpheus is just for the PS4. Maybe they'll change their mind after they realise they could also make money of us hopeless PC gamers who had their baby stolen from them. Or maybe they'll use this to their advantage to sell more PS4s and then give it to us? Maybe Microsoft can do something? But regardless, Facebook, please don't buy Sony and Microsoft tomorrow. We kind of need them before you purchase them as well and drive them into the ground.
