Also, for the sake of things, does anybody see a pattern here? Dragons, Arch trees, grey world. The lords rise up, fight the dragons, and make their own world that prospered for at the very least, 10,000 years. The Abyss breaks out, the opposite of light, the weakest at first, but what wasn't known was that it would grow, and keep growing until it could overpower everything. Even the strongest apparent force at first, light. Speed things up, and after the first flame was kindled, the light held things off at bay for only 1000 years. This means that with every new relighting of the first flame, less and less time will pass before things fade. And it is very clear that the world is fading in Dark Souls II. Magic and fire is weakened, seeming diluted and less potent than ancient counterparts. Titinite, even things like shards, are noted for being extremely rare, and as you can see, have offbranched and been diluted as well. Meanwhile, Darkness is now more present than before, and even being noted as an element now. But what's most interesting about this possible cycle, is the giants. When they die, they turn into trees, ancient trees. Reminiscent of archtrees. But, my true point is, what happens when the abyss overcomes everything and the last light goes out? There's no more disparity. And all that's left are the twisted beings of the Abyss. What if, one day, another fire lights, and the cycle starts once more? After all, the Four lords came from somewhere. What if Humanity, and their kin, Lords, or Giants, are all stuck in a repeating cycle? They rise, fall, and rise again over and over with every new world?

Well considering drangleic has had a bunch of different names so what if every time it goes through the cycle it gets a different name. I remember straid the sorcerer who was petrified said
so they call this place drangleic now? It had a different name before they turned me to stone
so maybe he was there during one of the previous cycles and wasn't destroyed because he was turned into stone..

  • I don't think Straid was part of a full cycle. Part of a kingdom obviously, that came long before Drangleic. I think that when and if the abyss hits a sort of critical mass, and the world dies, and is reborn again, nothing is left over. Then again, the archtrees, and the descendants of the eternal dragons survived, even all the way up to now, when and they were, for the most part from the old existence before. So who can really say?

  • I'll need to get back to you on this after I finish the game. I'm pretty sure there is more to be learned about both the curse and the giants.

  • I haven't beaten it yet either. But I'm just speculating based off of what I know and have seen so far.

  • It seems your hunch was well founded. I linked an article in another post in this thread. The comments section has a great discussion concerning the cyclical nature of the Dark Souls world.
