Bungie says that you won't be able to immediately jump into competitive multiplayer, what do you think? Will this balance out any experiential issues, I think it will give people a better chance to learn some of the mechanics of dispatching enemies. As far as kill times though I believe that players will definitely know the difference of how easy it is, but will be intrigued with the options that they have and that they see the enemy utilizing to escape death. With these faster kill times, now that I've begun thinking about it... I just don't know. Thanks for bringing this up, really compelling stuff man.

Happy to bring it to your attention. I didn't know that competitive multiplayer wouldn't be available from the start. Where did you get this information? Although I don't see who could possibly start up the game and not want to immediately delve into this expansive world we're promised.

In the game informer interview with Lars Bakken, the interviewer asks if there is a stock multiplayer but Bakken replied saying that you couldn't just start up in three seconds then hit multiplayer as a way to make a more cohesive experience. I might have read this wrong. It's within the first 5 minutes of the competitive multiplayer interview.

They've pretty much said in GI and other places I think, that since they're trying to make the world seamless, you have to get through a portion of the campaign to actually reach the point where you can enter PvP. I doubt it would be too long though.

I think this was more meant in the sense that 'multiplayer' wasn't just an option in the main menu. I actually heard rumors that there isn't main menu at all. I think Bakken meant that when you join the game, there's places you have to go (an arena, thunderdome, etc.) to fight, not just being somewhat-magically whisked into combat a la Halo.

Yes, I believe it has been somewhat confirmed that there will be no main menu. However, we have seen screenshots of what looks pretty much like a main menu, so...

I've heard that that is your ship menu--that your ship will serve as a hub, fast-travel point, storage space, living space, etc. Your ship will allow you to go everywhere and do all the things that would normally be available in various non-in-game menus.

Sounds like a less-convenient main menu to me, but we'll see how Bungie works it out.
