What is this math symbol? What does it mean?

14 RepliesPlus or minus. It's just an easier way to say +2 and -2. Like if you have an equation x^2 - 4, you can factor that into (x+2)(x-2). The zeros of the equation are at +2 and -2, but you can just say x = ±2.
