Interesting concept, they wish to destroy the threat before it becomes one. Though most time travel based plots fall in on themselves.. As the vex would wipe out the source of humanity I.e. Wiping out the Neanderthals. Which leads me to the conclusion that we create them or played some crucial part to their birth, by which, if they destroy us before the point they were created the vex would be undoing themselves.. Furthering that speculation, it is likely they've chosen to strike at our seemingly weakest point in time, close to the era of their creation. It would be interesting to see those events unfold in Destiny campaign.

Perhaps their time travel is limited somehow.

They will likely wish to harvest technology to further their gain. From us or more likely the traveller.

I would imagine they want the Traveler and we just happen to be a pleasant side effect. Considering our greatest tech came from the traveler.

Vex have to be their own species IMO.

I mean, we still don't know IF we're going to be fighting the Vex full time. Hell, they might just ignore us until we get too close to their Venus base thingy. They're probably too busy warring with the Cabal to actively try and stomp us out. It'll be interesting to see all of the different Species' goals play out over time.
