Is calling something "gay" really discriminatory? I think it's gotten to the point where the word has two definitions. Three, if you count the original.

 •
Is calling something "gay" really discriminatory?
Yes. If you're not referring to something as having "a merry, lively mood", then you're using its other definition as a derogative. Being gay means that you feel sexual attraction to people of the same gender. That’s literally it. A picture, as referenced by the picture of the twitter conversation, cannot be gay because (obviously) it lacks a gender. By using 'gay' as a derogative, you are applying that definition to what you're describing and saying 'this is wrong', or 'this is unacceptable'.

 • Gay used to mean happy. Why is it ok for homosexuals to change it's definition to describe their sexual orientation, but no one else is allowed to give it a different definition? Who cares if the word is used negatively? If you're not referring to homosexuals when you say it, then no one should be offended.

 • Right, so it has come to mean that something is unacceptable. It's used so frequently in that way that, although dictionaries have not been updated, the social perception of the word used in a derogatory, but not homosexual context, is that something is not right or normal. And moral views aside, a homosexual is not normal from an evolutionary standpoint or a social standpoint, given the proportion of heterosexuals to homosexuals. I don't think gay people should be offended when it is used like it is above, but that's just me.
although dictionaries have not been updated
Yes they have. The OED officially recognises one of the definitions of the word 'gay' to mean "informal - offensive foolish, stupid, or unimpressive".
And moral views aside, a homosexual is not normal from an evolutionary standpoint or a social standpoint, given the proportion of heterosexuals to homosexuals. I don't think gay people should be offended when it is used like it is above, but that's just me.
*bangs head on desk* No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no... Please reread that and realise how ridiculous you sound, and how it basically serves as an underlying justification for any kind of discrimination. Being gay is more than just having a different place to put your genitals, people need to stop looking at it like that. Homosexuality is a form of love - this emotion is perhaps the most natural thing in the world. It doesn't matter if there are fewer homosexuals than there are heterosexuals in the world, on what basis does this make it justifiable to deny them basic rights and openly discriminate against them? There's a period of world history in which something similar to this happened between people who had different coloured skin, what you've said is essentially legitimising that on the basis of "we outnumber them".

 • The origin of the newer meaning of the word is very much well known, and its derogatory properties derive from saying that some else is a homosexual. Thus, it is still offensive.

 •
the english language has multiple meanings and can be interpreted many ways
All of which we have quite readily spelled out for us in this thing we call a dictionary which is constantly being updated. Exactly where has the term 'gay' been used in modern society to describe something positive, especially in comparison to it being used as a negative? How many immature people ignorant of the wider group the word refers to do we see and hear about using words like 'gay' and '-blam!-' in a positive light? People like you and the OP who defend this are as laughably moronic as members of the WBC.
