Now lets remove the religious aspect, for the time being. Do you believe events are connected, or that certain events occur to shape the life of another person?
This can very from simple to complex situations and events. Such as a natural disaster occurring and killing thousands, but uniting a country and perhaps the world. Or asking that one person how their day was and preventing their suicide because someone cared to ask, but you never knew and never will.
And if you do, do you believe that since things happen for a reason that you can predict/anticipate or even manipulate events. Think domino effect, or string theory (in the sense everything is connected).
Share your philosophy or idea on the matter. There really isn't a right or wrong answer so speak openly. Its something that poses good conversation and can bring to light exquisite ideals and opinions.

To an extent. I mean, people need a reason. They need explanation. For whatever reason, "things happen for a reason" gives people that.

1 ReplyIf you honestly believe that...

Yes. Everything does happen for a reason. Because everything that happens now in some way was the result of something before. Cause and effect, basically.

For every action there is a reaction.

I kinda agree, cuz I was getting my hair cut yesterday and my dad was lookin at a newspaper. He said that some people were having a halo tournament to raise some money for charity. So that night I ask my friend if he wanted to go cuz it's a two man team. He said yeah so we start up halo 4 and out of the blue they have a game type for team doubles. That's exactly what the tournament is gonna be. It ended up being good practice seeing how we went 3 for 3.

The phrase "Everything happens for a reason" seems misleading to me. I would admit that past events can cause future events to happen, but I wouldn't say they happen to cause them to happen. More cause and effect and less design.

1 ReplyI do believe everything happens for a reason. And I've been through enough to whole heartedly believe that
-
I believe that there is a reason as to why events unfold, but every decision you make changes that reason. Essentially, I believe that things happen with a reason; and that reason is to let you forge your own future.

1 ReplyI believe everything happens for a reason, but I don't have any evidence to support it.

Edited by Ttasmmv: 9/17/2013 11:41:38 AMEverything is connected, and all events entwined. The universe is so great, and our time in it so short, that the correlations seem nonexistent at times. The future can be predicted though, but the nuances and complexity are so great that it can only be worked into probabilities: we can only ever forecast with incomplete data. If you live in the universe you will be affected by it, and you will have an effect on it.

Everything is for a reason AND for no reason. The percentage of reason and no reason, however, is undefined.

1 ReplyEverything that happens is the will of Shrek; the Holocaust indirectly led to a boom in the onion market, for example, and it also allowed Shrek to put his fart gas too good use.

Everything does happen for a reason. And it's as simple as that, and I'll tell you why. The very fact that things are the way they are now, is because what happened back then, happened. Change one detail, it'd be different. Although it is hard to look on the bright side of things when things go down, know that they may lead to something you may never expect. And if you didn't go through with these events, you may have never reached said event. Good or bad, everything is connected, and led to what is today, and will lead to what is tomorrow.

You cannot remove religion out of this conversation. If you believe that every event that happens is pre-determined to lead up to a future event, you believe in a higher deity, that could cause this to happen. If you believe in randomness, then you believe that there is no higher power that could cause something to happen for a reason, or that your deity is incapable of altering events. I am on the randomness side of the spectrum, for I believe it is impossible for something to control everything that happens, and our life would be meaningless if there was something that could do that.

I think things happen because of the conditions that preceded them.

1 ReplyThis can be interpreted in two ways. The reason this is happening is because of previous events. OR The reason this is happening is to lead to a single event in the future.
-
Well...obviously. How can something happen without a cause for it happening?
