GTA V Mandatory Download Question

So, I'm sure some of you know of GTA V's required download that's 8 gigabytes. My question is, is this download installing the game to your hard drive or is like (for example) a texture pack like Battlefield 3? What I mean by that is when I download the 8 gb "update", does that update install GTA V to my hard drive a long with everything else or will I still need to install the actual game? It's a weird question, I may of worded it confusingly and if I have I apologize but this is just something I'm curious to know. Thanks. Have a great day.

  • Thanks for helping clarify this guys. I have a gigantic HDD (320 gb) so downloading both isn't a big deal, it's just I prefer making my game function as efficiently as possible and it would have been cool if it just a "one and done" kind of thing. No biggie, still freaking out cause of how excited I am for the game.

  • My guess is its like Halo 4, installing content on the second disk, with the option of installing the first if you like.

  • Like Halo 4, I'd assume you'll need to install both if you don't want the disc spinning whilst you play.

  • I believe it to be both. Running the game/textures from the HDD would increase loading times while roaming from one side of the city to the other.

  • I'd assume it's a little of both. Nothing like a day one patch to stop your game being completely leaked early! The reason for mandatory installs is that the read speed from a disc (even Blueray, especially Compact Discs) is so much slower it creates a bottleneck for games that are constantly loading world areas, meshes and textures (like GTA, Skyrim, etc). You have a great day too!
