I know I'm pretty late to the party here. Please forgive me... I've had a rather significant life event recently.
Anyhow, onto the point... I, like some of you I'm sure, recently downloaded my free copy of Assassin's Creed II as part of the Games with Gold program. This was my first experience with the Assassin's Creed franchise and I'm a little bit hooked. If this was goal for Microsoft, then mission accomplished!
Now, I'd like to know everyone else's thoughts, on AC2 and on the rest of the series. Should I go back and pick up the first one? What about number 3? What are your favourite parts of the games? Personally, I'm really enjoying searching for all the collectibles and such. It almost reminds me of the old Legend of Zelda games.
Discuss.

Just finished AC2 today and was satisfied enough to immediately buy the DLC. I also downloaded the Assassin's Creed Lineage videos. Has anybody watched those? Are they worth my time?
-
You can skip 1 tbh. If you're interested in the story, just wiki it.
-
Pick up the first game. Brotherhood too, and maybe Revelations, but mostly Brotherhood. Skip 3 entirely.

Edited by halo: 8/24/2013 11:01:17 PMHere's the run down. AC 1 was very repetitive, I was like 13 when I played it so to be honest it did not really bother me. As an older guy, you might find the game to be extremely boring, but I loved the setting, the cities, and the story, along with how leaders/significants were assassinated. By the way, the repetitiveness comes from how you gather information from your targets. You need to sit at a bench, listening to them speak, you just sit there. Then you follow people who know them, and beat them up for information, then you do this and that and this and that, and it's seriously just like 6 methods of gathering information over and over again. AC 2 was definitely THE BEST GAME IN THE SERIES. Honestly, no game was better. In my opinion, you might think differently since you're new to the series. AC Brotherhood and Revelations were EXTREMELY boring to me. In AC 1 there was a sweet setting, AC2 it was a different time period and new setting, and then these two games take place during the same time period and Revelations just doesn't feel like a new game. AC3 was decent despite it's 5 hour tutorial and mediocre story. The forest running was not that great, but I liked the setting. AC4 honestly looks to be a huge turning point, from what I've seen I LOVE the setting, and there looks to be a shit ton of stuff to do in the Caribbean. It doesn't feel like a real AC game, but let's be honest, the last 3 AC games were mediocre as hell.

Get the first one and then Brotherhood. Maybe Revelations if you're still interested in the life of Ezio. ACIII was ONLY good for Desmonds story. Connors was horrible

II and Brotherhood were the peak of the series' acclaim. By the end of Brotherhood however Ubisoft's methods for pumping these games out was catching up to them. You'll find the quality in Revelations takes a nose dive. AC III wasn't even finished. Anyone jumping into AC IV thinking "this time will be different" is asking to get burned. I would buy Brotherhood since it's a great game. I'm tempted to then suggest Revelations just so you can have a semblance of closure. After that walk away.

AC1 - It;s good, but can be repetitive ACII - Pinnacle of the series AC Brotherhood - It's pretty good, and the improved combat system is nice AC Revelations - It's a hit and miss, you either got sick of Ezio after Brotherhood, or you'll love him still ACIII - Eugh... That's the only way to describe it ACIV - Looks amazing. Appears to be returning to the core elements of what makes an Assassin's Creed game.

Dey AC series iz pretty mlg imo.
-
Yes get the first one. And that is all.

Edited by Verachi: 8/24/2013 6:14:43 PMIf I were you I'd play through all of them. If you play revelations without play AC 1 you'll be a little lost. I just played through all the AC games recently and I had a blast. The most likeable character is Ezio that't probably why they made 3 games with him. I highly recommend you play all the games. Lucky for you all the AC games are cheap now.

Assassins Creed 2 is the only good one. 1 will feel awful and ugly and 3 is not so good. I've never played the various spinoffs (brotherhood, ect.)
-
The entire AC series is good and each one progresses the story a bit farther. I suggest playing them all. They come in this order 1 2 Brotherhood Revelations 3 Black flag And if you enjoy the unique AC multiplayer, that started in brotherhood.
-
Eh, tried playing 2, never got into it.
-
Play all of them but be warned the first one Is a bit repetitive.
