How often do you find yourself in situations where you actually use that weapon?
Or if you want to go in-depth...
Before you started to carry, how often did you find yourself in situations where you needed a weapon? And after you started carrying, how often did you find yourself in situations where you needed a weapon?

Yet again, this thread shows just how weak the anti -gun argument really is.

7 RepliesEdited by Recon Number 54: 7/9/2013 1:34:04 AMAbout as often as I have been in a car accident, and yet I still buckle up every time I get into my car. About as often as I have had a kitchen fire, and yet I still have a fire extinguisher in my kitchen and near my outdoor grill. About as often as I have needed the first aid kit in my car, and yet I still have on in the car, in my house, etc. I carry, not because I plan on being in a situation where my life is in danger. I carry because I can not predict if/when that will happen, and so I have to have the appropriate tools (and know how to appropriately use them) should such a rare and unfortunate event ever occur. If someone were to tell me with 100% certainty that I would be in a car accident tomorrow, I wouldn't just buckle up and wear a crash helmet, I wouldn't go driving. If someone told me that I would be in a situation where my life was in danger, I wouldn't pack an extra mag and go on with my business. I would do anything and everything to avoid and make sure that I wasn't in such a situation. But I have been. In car accidents, had a kitchen fire and been in a life threatening situation where I was unable to avoid, defuse, or retreat from the danger. Fortunately, in each of those cases I was prepared, had the appropriate tool for the situation and used it properly and as a result, no harm came to me or to others. I am a careful person. I don't seek danger or confrontation. But the danger exists, I understand that it is rare, but I have a choice of either being prepared for the situation, or to not be. I choose the former and then do my best to make sure that I don't have to rely on my tools and training.

You carry a weapon hoping you never have to use it, but have it in case you do.

Edited by Funkbrotha10: 7/9/2013 2:12:30 AMI have drawn / held at the ready. My weapon twice. One time was when I was walking down town, Someone tried to mug me with a knife. I leaped backwards while simultaneously drawing. Upon staring down the barrel the assailant turned and ran. Use of weapon = successful, Threat ended. Shots Fired = 0 Second time was when I was at home, some tweaker was trying to break in ( trying to pry open door with crow bar ) Threw the door open with gun at the ready. would-be burglar fled Use of weapon = sucessfull, Threat Ended. Shots Fired = 0 Although under my state's law I could have legally killed both of them then and there.

Needs? I'm not exercising my needs. I'm exercising my rights.

I base myself carrying a sidearm because of the crime rate in my area. Only been in one situation were I thought I actually might have needed it. But one reason is good enough for me. Plus if it makes me less paranoid that's all I need.

2 RepliesNow, when you say weapons, I assume you mean some type of firearm. Do these same questions apply to someone who regularly carries a knife on their person when possible? Or in my case, three.

5 RepliesMy EDC consists of a pocket knife. Either my Swiss army knife or a small folder. Carrying anything else here in California is a crime. I believe folders have to be under 3 inches and you cannot conceal a fixed blade knife. Getting a firearm carry permit is next to impossible in most counties, and I don't even have a handgun that I would consider safe enough to carry anyway. Have I ever been in a situation where I needed to pull my knife? Does having to tighten a screw down in my truck count? I hope I never have to pull my pocket knife in defense because quite frankly, I'd be screwed.

1 ReplyEdited by Frost: 7/9/2013 1:54:57 AMI think it's more of a matter of "I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it." I don't know why anyone would want to be in a situation where you need to defend yourself, and sadly it happens, but thankfully it's not an every-day necessity.

Edited by Enlightened One: 7/9/2013 1:45:15 AM
How often do you find yourself in situations where you actually use that weapon?
Never have.. It is better to have it with me and not need it, than need it and not have it with me.

2 RepliesLots of stupid shit happens in Reading, Pennsylvania, so that's why I started carrying whenever I went in to the city. Only once did I need it. Did it save my life? I don't know. A lone Rican with a knife isn't exactly a huge threat, but I didn't want to chance it. Simply drawing sent him away. I've stopped carrying though, ever since a close call with some cops nearly finding out since well, I wasn't quite doing it legally. Call me paranoid, but that could really -blam!- up my service in the Guard. I could have just kept it and open carried, but, well, people get scared then for some reason. I'll just wait until I'm 21 and get a CCP before I carry again.
