It was pretty complacent to leave it in the road ;)
In all seriousness, I don't think it's complacency, it's laziness and an overly large sense of self importance. Those two combined are the worst.

I don't wanna get too concerned over the particulars of my specific example, but he was in a truck that allowed him to see out behind by a rear-view mirror, as well as having both the ladders on a rack above his head, which made a loud noise when slid off, so much so that I heard it, and I was pretty far back behind him. Not to mention how guilty he looked. He was obviously aware of the ladder having fallen off, and it was frustrating that A) He did nothing about it and B) He was well aware of how dangerous it was to have left it.

Well, I saw a big ass box in the middle of a busy street in town today, speed limit around 35-40 with people going as fast as 45, so I pulled into a parking lot and went into the middle of the road to get it out. All hope is not lost :)
