This means that the actual power supply is built into the console itself. This is actually really cool move by Sony. Whether the power brick is on the inside or out isn't a big deal, but it is nice to have 1 cable with no power brick attached to it.

2 RepliesWell that sucks. People don't realize that the rectifier is the vanguard of protecting your pc/console as well as supplying power. If a power outage or surge destroys the brick it's going to be a pain to replace that thing. I liked the movement of the rectifier out of the consoles, in a tower you can just get in there easily and replace it. Hopefully they make it removable/swappable. Otherwise that's bad.

-blam!-ING YAY Power bricks are such an eyesore. I've always wondered why consoles didn't have them built-in like PCs do.
-
1 ReplyDidn't expect it any other way. Good job Sony
-
Good..Good
-
3 Repliesare these the only vents on the entire thing? If so, then it was designed to be standing up and not in an entertainment system...
-
2 RepliesMeh. This doesn't really change anything. I like my exterior power brick lol
-
1 ReplyImpressive that they managed to cram a power supply in there. From what I've seen, it's a very compact box. It's not a hero feature, but it will be appreciated by people who move their console between houses/whatever.
-
7 RepliesDamn. That combined with the lack of ventilation either means there's going to be some overheating going on, the thing is going to be loud as hell, or perhaps Sony pulled off something genius.
-
2 RepliesWhy is this a big deal?
-
As you said in the OP, not really that big a deal. I honestly can't imagine anyone getting a boner over this, but chances are there are some people on this forum who will.
-
2 RepliesGuys, both ps4 and Xb1 have internal power supplies. Why are you all so flustered?
-
one of the good things about sony consoles
-
14 RepliesEdited by Braydzz: 6/29/2013 5:59:37 AMI wouldn't think so considering none of their past consoles had one but maybe its better to have a power brick so you have more room in the console for more important things like ram and a bigger GPU.
-
2 RepliesNothing really new, the PSone, PS2, and PS3 didn't use external power supplies either.
-
Ooh that's awesome. Damn that's interesting considering the size of that thing.
-
3 Repliesfor the people talking about "zomg that means it could be some problems with overheating", the 360 had a power brick....RROD. Ps3 had no power brick...no over heating problems. That said I seriously hope both consoles run cooler because it's a pain in the ass to start sweating due to the heat from my consoles AND my hd tv.
-
I wasn't even expecting the ps4 to have a power brick
-
PS3 never used a power brick. Don't see why it'd be a problem for PS4.
-
One downside. That's a nice big heat source right near another big heat source (APU). Hope Sony has their cooling in order or there could be problems.
-
That is awesome
-
2 RepliesWhat is a power brick? I'm guessing it's the rectangle shaped thing that is attached to my xbox but what does it do?
-
Edited by CostlyAxis: 6/29/2013 12:16:08 AMI would be surprised if they did have a power brick given the PS3 didn't have one, and the original model even used a standard computer power cable.
