Guns should be illegal

So I've always noticed it seems that the Flood is a bit more left leaning. I myself am a conservative/libertarian. So what's your opinion on firearms? Please try to keep flaming and stuff to a minimum. Also do any of you know what a true assault rifle is?

  • People should be able to own firearms but it should have much more regulation.

  • I don't see why people should not have guns at home. I feel as more problems arise from banning guns than if you'd just let them be legal and available to people.

  • I don't really get why people have them. Canada has different laws than Murcia and we don't have as many probs as you guys. I'd imagine they are super fun to shoot though.

  • It should be understood that guns are meant for the most part (emphasis on "most part") as defense, and that though they should only be used as the last resort, banning them will only make law-abiding citizens more helpless against attacks and will only keep them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, because they won't be the ones buying guns off black markets that would eventually carry weapons that criminals would be using. Besides, if guns were banned, driving out to the desert and setting up glass and plastic bottles and cardboard targets to practice shooting at would also be banned, and that is some fun stuff.

  • They are tools designed to send .small.projectile towards a target at a consistent velocity, consistent vector, in a precise and accurate manner. They should be allowed in the hands of police, military, and responsible law abiding citizens. Outright banning firearms for civilian use at this point would be only detrimental. There is simply too many civilian firearms in use, it would be nearly impossible to account for them all. And the only people would keep their weapons hidden from police are criminals, and those fearing hostile government tyranny. And with military(I doubt regular police would be used, it would be a federal mandate, not a city or state one) coming to your door trying take away a rifle that may have been in your family for generations I can't really blame them. Neither of those people would be good to have around. Regulations on weapons, and just regular crime control would be the only real solution. The term "assault weapon" has degraded into a media term any scary look weapons. Such as those painted black, equipped with holographic sights, extendable stocks, lasersights, flash lights, etc. When in reality, assault weapon should only be defined as "full auto or burst firing modes, and magazines extended beyond what the manufacture originally used." Those are the only two characteristics that are intended for combat against humans, and pose a real threat. Those other ones I listed(which are, coincidentally much easier to identify) are put on firearms the majority of the time, and I'm going to get so much bullshit for this, but it's my opinion, because they look cool. A civilian AR-15 equipped with holographic sights, extendable stocks, painted black, and has a flashlight is a military grade rifle about as much an engine stock Ford Fiesta with cool stickers, bucket seats, and a cool paint job is Ken Block's Works Fiesta with a 700bhp engine, and stripped down to all non-essentials. The stock might look cool, but it still has 130bhp, and a couple hundred pounds of airbags, automatic transmission, air conditioner and a bunch of other stuff that makes it not Ken Block's Fiesta. For my personal use? A shotgun kept for home defense use, just like a fire extinguisher would be. And conceal and carry handgun, in the same manner I drive a car with airbags.

  • I'm not sure. On one hand, it would be hypocritical of us to oppress them because of what they've done. On the other hand, they have hurt so much, and so many people, that they need to be controlled. Maybe we should just dissolve the fire nation, and start from scratch.

I'm from the UK. But obviously you are probably talking about the US. I think its pretty much impossible to make guns Illegal and its not going to happen anytime soon. But i think that there should be restrictions on what you own. Guns should be for self defence. And obviously storing an LMG or something like that in your home isn't very appropriate. I think there should also be a limit on the amount of guns that you can own

    • I think they should be legal, I however do not own any. My dad has an old .22 caliber rifle in the closet, but there's no ammo in the house, and he never messes with it.

    • All you have to do is compare the crime rates to gun strict states to non gun strict states, and that is all the information that you need to see; that gun restrictions endanger the public. When the bad guys, who are going to get gun no matter what, don't have to worry about citizens firing back at them, they're is going to always be more crime. Chicago has the strictest gun rules in the country (next to New York of course), and they have more murders a month than anywhere else in America.

Guns should only be in the hands of the military and/or civilians who are capable of handling guns without killing others and themselves (intentional or accidental). How you would define someone as "capable to operate a firearm" I will have to leave to someone more knowledgeable on the subject. EDIT: Oh, and no heavy weapons for civilians. There is no reason to have a M249 SAW or a rocketlauncher for hunting or a weapon-hoarding hobby. I'm leaning more on the ban weapons side of things. It just seems silly to me that you can defend unrestricted access to weapons by stating an amendment that was created in a time where weapons were very limited in their capabilities. I doubt the founding fathers would anticipate something as...efficient.

I like guns and an assault rifle is any rifle with a select fire switch. Also, I'm fine with "assault weapons." Although I'm not a fan of mags over 30 rounds.

              • I like them and am planning to buy one whenever I can. I want something cheap and fun to shoot, so I'll probably buy a Mosin Nagant then buy a pistol for more practical self defense use.

                    •
So what's your opinion on firearms?
People have a right to them. But a lot of people treat it rather frivolously or want to use the weapon as a tool of first resort instead of as a weapon of last resort. Most of the current laws being pushed to effectively ban "assault weapons" aren't going to do much to stop the problems the people are saying these laws are going to fix.

                      • Guns have been proven to deter crime and keep people safer. While stricter regulations do need to be out in place banning them just causes trouble.
