How would you suggest Increasing School Safety?

People have been saying, especially after Newtown, that are schools aren't safe enough, and it's kind of true. It's sad that we have more protections for our banks, than our schools. More security measures for our money, over our children. So, tell me. How do you suggest increasing safety in schools? Obviously people don't like Gun Control measures as they say it won't help, so propose an alternative. I suggest that all schools be given grants to buy Protection Films for Windows and Doors leading into the schools. While not 100% effective for bullets entering, it prevents the glass from being shattered to allow for faster response before violence occurs. Flood, thoughts?

Give all of the students guns, obviously. If they shoot anyone, then the school will know to keep an eye on them.

  • Honestly, anything but armed security. I don't want to live in a place where we need armed guards walking around our schools. If anything it will make me feel less secure.

  • I like how the schools in my area do it where it's like an apartment complex where you have to be buzzed in or else all the doors are locked, and they also have parent volunteers to watch the school for the day.

  • Give all the students 870's. Not only would it protect the students from gunmen, it would also give the students a way to deal with bullies.

Is there much you can do about it? Anyway, I'd rather still in a rare case get shot than get stabbed to death.

    • Put bigger gun free zone signs, and a notice on how everyone in the school is defenseless.

      • explosive collars. If a child's vitals drop to low, the collar will explode, also killing the attacker. And if it was a medical reason and not a violent one, it will teach schools to be more alert towards children in need.

After a student was stabbed to death in a bathroom at my high school, security cameras were installed. As if that was going to help.

          • There is not much that can be done. 99% of schools are totally insecure. If you go to school. Imagine you have a handgun and you are crazy. What stops you from taking the gun into school in your backpack? For nearly all of you who go to a school the answer is probably absolutely nothing. Nobody would know about a gun in a backpack. In terms of elementary school with younger children the best thing to do is lock the doors so that people cannot just walk in. In a high school the threat is different. The main threat is a student with a gun. In a high school environment there is just no way that every student can be screened airport-style before entering the building. The only thing I can think of that would really help middle and high schools from student shooters is more preventative measures to identify threats before they are truly credible.

Realistically? The problem isn't to be defensive but to be offensive. Identify problems before they happen and neutralize the threat before it materializes. Course those against Gun Control measures are also against attempts as well. As it stands, states are not required to submit mental health records to the background check system. It's voluntary. And of the states that do, some only submit token amounts. Patchwork legislation doesn't help either.
