At least 50% of that will go towards 3 Halo and Gears of War titles. Microsoft spent a ton on just marketing Halo 3, Reach, and Halo 4. The 1 billion isn't very promising when you know Microsoft spends over 50 million on 1 Halo game. How do I know this? Halo 3 had a budget around 60 million, and Microsoft confirmed they spent more money on Halo 4. I also assume that Halo TV series isn't going to be cheap, especially since it can be considered part of the marketing budget on an unannounced Halo game.

  • 343i has announced a whole trilogy from the beginning. That's why I don't want to have anything to do with any up coming Halo stuff (did not even think about buying Halo4 after all those trailers). It's pure money-making and there is not the slightest try to let it look like anything else.

  • 1000, and when Halo games alone are probably getting 75 million per installment you begin to realize Microsoft is going to spend a good chunk of that 1 billion on there established franchises. One can only hope Rare finds a way to revive themselves.

  • If microsoft has a billion dollars, and spend 75 million on their most valuable gaming franchise (halo), you can be sure there is boatloads of cash left over to spare. You make it sound like only microsofts big hitters like halo and gears of war are going to get extra funding. With 1 billion, microsoft can fund every single xbox exclusive title that is ever going to be made on the xbox 1 for the next decade and still be left with a truckload of cash

You don't understand how 75 million per installment works, do you? That means if Microsoft releases 3 official Halo games that will total around 225 million. Then you have to factor in the yearly spin-offs they want to fund. Add in the new television series and you'll quickly see Halo alone will probably get at least 300 million (or 30%) of the total pie. Then you have Gears of War, Microsoft's other cash cow. I expect these games to get slightly smaller budgets, so 40-50 million per installment is a decent guess. 3 official Gears games would come in around 150 million. That alone is 450 million dollars invested in just Gears of War and Halo and doesn't include the possibility of additional Gears of War games. I understand 500 million can go a long way with new games, but assuming each game gets 10 million dollars (which is kind of small when you factor in marketing, packaging, and production) that totals 50 other games. How many of those will be "Kinect Games" which don't have much appeal to gamers on this site? How much money will go towards Forza, Fable, and Microsoft's other "established" franchises? My point is 1 billion basically means a few new IPs that may or may not be successful.
