To tack onto the OP, another point I'd like to raise is that MS's presentation focused equally on multimedia and gaming. Sorry if you don't like EA Sports games or Call of Duty, but somebody does: 4 of the 5 most-played games on Xbox Live are CoD or EA Sports Games. It makes complete sense that Microsoft would highlight these games along with the new console's multimedia capabilities.

  • You know what kills the X1 for me, lack of included backwards compatibility. I started buying games on demand thinking I would have access to those games for near eternity. But it seems now thay I will always need to keep a working 360 around, or shell out more cash to buy some unneeded addon. I've said this before, I'm not going to support business practices that bilk the consumer.

  • I'm not going pretend that MS is this wonderful company, but there's actually a reason for the lack of backwards compatibility (in the XB1 nd PS4). One pretty prohibitive problem for developers last gen was that each console had its own special architecture. But with these new consoles, they've switched to the x86 architecture that is already a standard used by PC's. This is going to make it a lot easier to develop multi-platform games, but the trade-off is that old games wont work. With these new cloud capabilities, I would be disappointed if they didn't put old games online for streaming.

  • That could also be said with the original Xbox and the 360, yet they had an emulator that worked for most games. MS didn't include intergraded backwards capability because they wanted to charge an added fee for a tacky addon, that the system could more than handle.

  • You've erected a strawman argument. Microsoft fanboys.

  • Do you really need proof that people have said that the reveal sucked because it focused on EA Sports and Call of Duty games and that Xbox One should be focusing on gaming instead of multimedia? If those aren't the arguments, then please enlighten me as to what they are. Or did you simply misunderstand the meaning of "straw man"? Common mistake for forum warriors, so you can be forgiven if so.

Lemme indulge you. See, for anyone who's done an iota of research, watched the reveal, or read an article they'd know the focus was meant to be console-specific. The person who hasn't taken that into account would be an outlier, especially on a gaming forum, so the only recourse is to guess why exactly they disliked the lack of focus on games. Now is it any wonder why 'you' have concluded they're irresponsible bigots for not recognizing the ubiquitous possibility of more than what has already been shown? Eh, I don't think it can be. See a strawman argument most aptly describes what 'your' perveted bias has lead 'you' to either believe or say. The argument that has been brought forth is multifaceted, and deeply layered in credence. Microsoft focused on entertainment during their developement, and they deigned to focus on it during their reveal. The backlash is that it has depreciated their overall credibility.

  • The way you write...is way too wordy and convoluted. There are better ways to write that so even the educated people on the site don't have to do a double take. You tried way too hard.

  • I've read a lot of academic papers that have forced me to double and triple take. Perhaps you have low standards, but that there isn't so bad; perhaps one or two unnecessarily large words.

  • That's because academic papers are supposed to be written that way. You don't see people with Doctorates telling their friends to read their thesis because, A. it's going to be extremely wordy, and B. will most likely go over the heads of the common reader. Your writing is no where near that level, but you chose to structure your sentences in a manner that causes confusion.

Actually I think academic papers are superior because they're concise , only fielding the minimum amount of information necessary for the lamen reader. As to my writing, only a few sentences were confusing and could be structured better from my understanding.

I'd really like to respond, but that's incomprehensible. Sorry. If you can clarify what you're talking about, I'll try. EDIT: I see you edited your post. I think I get it now. And in fact, I think I am indeed responding squarely to your argument and not a "straw man." Also, I still think you're misunderstanding the definition of a straw man argument. At least from what I could glean from your post.

  • well seeing as i have no reason to argue a stance. strawman: contort an argument made by your opposition into something fallible, and make a counter claim against it. I have no clue what google says, so lemme in on if it's any different. Now, it's not my argument. I'm just speaking on behalf of what I've read and can account for. People don't so much mind the lack of games at the presentation, as they either find nothing attractive in it (lost credibility), or recognize much of microsofts developement was flittered away on non-gaming elements.

Foman Foman Foman. By now you should know pulling things like these doesn't help an argument against silly people.
Xbox 360 would be as heavily used for multimedia entertainment as for gaming?
Isn't that what the Xbox One is going to be like? Improving both aspects the other had? Except for some reason I didn't see anyone going "Going to PS3 because now I can listen to music while playing games on my Xbox 360!" Now since you get to watch TV(which your XBox 360 can do), look at apps(which your XBox 360 can do), etc. Except no one complained about the 360 now. Hmmmm... Double standards maybe?

  • Agreed. They already made it clear (Not enough for the internet thought. :/ ) that they would be using E3 as their place to unveil games and talk about the Xbox One's new capabilities. They seem to have created a console that will deal amazingly with Games.

The problem isn't that they didn't show games. it's that they didn't show how they'd support gaming. My kamikai

  • I know. I found that annoying as well, but it's really only a 2-3 week delay on when we'll find out. Besides, they said they have a TON of exclusives for the Xbox One, so it seems like they want to keep gaming a priority. We'll see in time though.

  • Not so sure about that. Seems to me that in an hour long presentation, where half of it was about call of duty... to not mention anything about their console at a console-centric presentation is suspicious. Then again I've never, and never will give microsoft any credibility. Foolish to think they've changed.

  • So you're really just butt-hurt that they didn't tailor the reveal to your specifications? When did the time emerge where you decide what is or is not the best way for a company to reveal their newest product?

What point do you think I'm trying to make lasombra? It certainly isn't that I'm angry they didn't reveal their console to any gamer's standards. Infact, I'm glad. Microsoft and fans needed to be humbled, if only out of my personal bias. Shrug. still don't know which system will do better though. lol, i swear lasi, if it was my old confrontational days I'd just call you an idiot for being backwards. Thankfully I can appreciate that you're probably young, or immature (happens to all of us). Just next time, don't pick a grudge match with a stance that you haven't taken the time to understand.

  • I agree with the first part of your post completely. This level of rage we're all seeing is the result of too much hubris on the part of us Gamers. Elitism only leads to vast disappointment, as we are seeing. I also feel you on the confrontation. I've let the blind rage of the ignorant inflame me. But I find it hilarious that these people hating on MS are hating on them for showing them a console, mentioning (in brief) what they're going to focus their whole E3 time on (the Games), and showing us that this console is a powerhouse that is much more than a one trick pony. However: At Sony's reveal, they told us really no more than "It only does EVERYTHING!!!!!1!1!11!" (sounds remarkably similar to another tech company that recently had a huge reveal...), showed us a whole raft of games, then showed us nothing about their console... not even a still shot. So MS shows us an actual console, that does many many things very well, with the promise to blow our minds with it's gaming power in a couple of weeks. MS says "trust us, we got your back Gamers!" Gamers: "That's not good enough M$!!!! Gives us the precious N@OW!!!!!" Sony says: "We gots games. I does bunches more, even though you can't see it... trust us, the console is on the way!" Gamers: "We love and trust you, Sony!!!" ---------- If we're going to spew hatred and vitriol across the aether that is the internet, could we at least not be hypocrites and eviscerate both company's equally?
