We're not told that he didn't even discover anything. We're not told that Leif Ericsson and the Vikings reached America centuries before Columbus, and the Native Peoples who walked across the land bridge from Russia before him.
Pretty sure I learned all this in grade school. And I live in TX.
Apparently, non-TX America is ignorant. Sucks to be y'all.

Dunno about you, but I was taught that in elementary school as well.
-
I'm from Illinois and I learned all of that in grade school.
-
Yea, i learned all that before i graduated HS in 98.
-
Grew up in California and I learned all of that too. I'm not sure where the OP grew up, but where ever it is sounds terrible.
-
Haven't laughed so much in years. You probably would think the whole world is crazy, when everyone would say you are crazy instead.

Problem?

Solution!

But I'm in Virginia, what I consider to be Texas's little brother/cousin. And I actually learn shit here, unlike in California public schools. (I used to live in CA, military parent and all that. "shudders")
-
Must we really bring up the "My state is smarter than California" argument every single time? I could be a dick and post the states by IQ, but then you'd call bullshit or something.
-
Grew up in California and learned all of that and more. Your "argument" is invalid.
-
Virginia is in no way the little bro of texas.
-
Maybe OP went to public schools... That would explain it :) - Der

Edited by RighteousTyrant: 5/21/2013 9:24:55 PMI, too, went to public schools, so no it wouldn't. :-P Judging from this thread and horror stories I've seen on reddit about outright falsehoods being taught in sex ed classes in TX and elsewhere, I've concluded I got really lucky and, despite coming from a relatively poor rural district, had a school full of teachers who actually gave a damn about what they were doing and didn't let their religion heavily influence how or what they taught.

I learned it and I also live in Texas. Lolrestofamerica
