Assuming any sort of status indicator that we may or may not eventually receive could be decided by the amount of followers we have, an influx of alternate accounts would be basically guaranteed as users attempted to manipulate their ranks. If it weren't for that, however, I could see the follower count being a good sub-basis for member ranks. If I were to be granted the privilege of deciding the formula by which the "title system" operates, I would start by not disclosing that information to the public in order to prevent users from abusing the system. After that, I'd probably just use the same formula that the previous rendition of bungie.net used, slightly tweaked perhaps, and also incorporating newer features such as amount of likes/followers. As I stated earlier however, such determinants would have much less effect on the rank of the user than default determinants such as activity and behavior seeing as how easily abuse-able they are. If member ranks were titles, just as they were on bungie.old, likes and followers would only justify a prefix. While I'm on the topic of how the old system operated, I would like it if ranks could be chosen by the user that the rank is assigned to. Obviously, the user would have to earn the rank first, but once it has been granted to the user, that user can decide which specific rank he or she wants displayed, if he or she wants their rank to be displayed at all.

  • Hard core analysis. I agree with all of it up untill the last paragraph. While it would be awesome and logical for bungie to give us another layer of customization , being able to pick our displayed rank, I can't help but think 99% of users would display the "highest rank" earned, assuming it's a linear system. But you are on to something. If bungie were to do titles like they are doing guns in destiny, basically a collection of parts then user names might be the same. Certain phrases might be unlock-able. Actually that's pretty sick. I could unlock gestuart88 legendary, cabal killer, sergeant, exhaled gaudrian, raider, mars raider, pilot, and only display "gestuart88 legendary raider". for example. Okay I totally dig that last paragraph now.
