Idk, at first I thought that part 2 was bad, but when i re-watched the show the ALF arc (pt.2) was not as bad as i had thought it was the first time... I think the massive drop in tension when pt.1 ends is what "kills" it for most people... and I'll admit that there is some weirdness, but I've come to expect that from anime. Still, I have to agree that the first half is rather epic. Combination of the music, characters, and the drama in the first arc. Part of me wants to see the anime continue (i read there are 1 or 2 more arcs) but i think at this point anything more would just be inviting further... watering down.
