No. We have both mute and report buttons.
The old way of moderating sucked. Let's not bring it back.

Mute and reporting is good for that one occasional guy that just spouts bullshit in every thread. But when you have everyone muting each other collectively over their personal belief, you know there's something wrong.
But when you have everyone muting each other collectively over their personal belief, you know there's something wrong.
Why? The alternative is that they post and create more of the kind of discussion you say you're trying to avoid. Stop assuming things about the mute/report options. It is designed to allow you to be the moderator of your own experience. If that means people who disagree with you get "banned", then so be it. Stop worrying about how other people are using it and worry about how you use it. I swear, people, the world doesn't revolve around your own view of things. Come on.

I don't agree with you very often. But I haven't muted you. I don't think that everyone is muting a lot of people.

We don't agree cause I play the Devils Advocate on every subject, I defend even the most ludicrous of ideas (Peanut butter and cheese sandwiches are delicious!). Have you seen the thread about the guy saying his mute list is growing? One guy had 117 people muted. That's abnormal, at least to me since I only have one guy muted.

The old way of moderating was good. What was moderated was not very good.
-
No, the old way was inconsistent and unclear. On the old site "follow the rules" meant navigating what was basically an clumsy online maze, stumbling around until you occasionally crossed some invisible line and got banned. Now, the rules don't depend on which moderator is online.
