I haven't had a single problem with mine. You need to take better care of your things, I think. Textbooks have sharp corners a lot, by the way. So... watch out for that, since there's really no way the top of a backpack would rip of its own, and that bottom one is a huge rip so there's no way that happened by itself.

I think the backpack was just not that well made, I wasn't carrying sharp objects or 50 pound rocks in it. But I take EXCELLENT care of my things, I wouldn't try and damage a $90.00 backpack by being stupid. Frankly I think a backpack this expensive should be more durable for light day to day use.
