Guild/Clan Ships in Destiny

Okay so I have an idea regarding ships! What if in-game guilds/clans (if they exist) could have a group ship? A sort of mothership that, according to the whims of the captain/clan leader, could orbit around certain planets as a sort of secondary base and refueling station. Floating in space is fairly easy on the graphics engine, so I assume the Xbox 360 version could support up to 16-20 players on board at once. What would be even cooler is if you could actually engage in space warfare as a team, one man piloting, and then many others at different stations. http://halo.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?cid=32237 In my mind it would be the coolest way to chill after kicking alien butt across the system, and would provide that warm fuzzy feeling of teamwork that the Elephants in Halo 3 did! TLDR: Multi-person ships for ultimate team-playing.

    • Now, I know in the Halo Series people formed clans/guilds outside of the game and played together that way. Did any game of the series have tags or indications that that person was part of a group (other than having "[CLAN]Playername" as your game name)?

      • Sounds like an amazing idea...but I doubt it. This is a world anyone can go anywhere. Where are all the mother ships going to go? Will they just set in space even if you log out? That's a lot of extra stuff just floating around that the system has to handle. Everyone and their mother will want to create a clan and have a mother ship of their own that's floating...somewhere in space that the game can never phase out like a player ship when they log off. Amazing idea, I just don't see how it would work. SWTOR toyed around with the idea, but it never came to light there either.

      • I agree. But I don't think it will happen.

      • I have been think about this for a while. I got the idea from the UNSC Infinity, Forward Unto Dawn, and In Amber Clad. I would like to be able to put my own vessel in it and I think it would be interesting to have the ship increase in size depending on how many people/ships it need to hold. So a smaller squad/team could have a frigate or battleship (like the Normandy in ME3 up to the size of the In Amber Clad) and a large faction could have a cruiser/warship or sorts.

        • I could definitely *get on board* with this. :) But seriously, that'd be awesome if you could hang out in a ship with your friends to socialize, craft items, sell items, queue up for matchmaking, or travel to other planets. Hopefully something like this will make it in the game.

I definitely agree! A ship that it takes a certain amount of people to build/purchase. You and your friends make/buy a ship together and choose which planet to place it over, preferably the one you like to battle and explore on the most. How's about having this ship above you gives you the option to call in airstrikes, supply drops, or whatever... And you and your crew get to customize the inside of the ship to your liking. You could even put little mini-games and stuff inside of it, simple shit like a virtual checkers/chess board on a table you can play against a friend, or a retro arcade machine. It'd be like that scene inside the Millenium Falcon with Han and Chewie! DOPE. You could move this ship from planet to planet if your favorite changes, but it would take time, maybe a day or two real-time. Changing orbits should be no easy task for such a large ship. You could also watch replays of your battles on said planet on a bigscreen afterwards in said ship with your friends. EVEN DOPER. Snap, your friend could even stay behind on the ship and provide cover from orbit as you traverse a difficult area on foot, shooting the mothership's badass arsenal down through the clouds and raining hell upon your enemies. THE DOPEST.

Sounds epic but might not be possible. I talked to some other people on here in a old thread and they brought up good points. What we said is more likely will have only one ship that will be our main base operations. Believability wise humanity probably can't produce huge battleship type ships at the moment with only just now venturing out again. Also when you think about it that's just more animating and that could possibly cause huge bugs and whatnot. I like the idea but it just seems like it will cause more problems unless they can figure out every aspect of it working out.

          • I can see player controlled fleets fighting for PvP worlds and if you control it you get benefits and can freely explore and use the planet for resources or scenarios or missions. Imagine dozens of player controlled ships plus AI-controlled ships of your faction engaging in a fully involved Space Battle. You have your Ace pilots flying their starships, your tactical players flying the Cruisers and such. Once one faction wins, players can board the defeated starships for scrap metal and other resources or even board them during combat and plant a nuke or something. Once you win in space, you get to fly your banners over the planet and mine it to repair your boys up above who have to hold the planet once you capture it from enemy forces. I'd just have my team of players lay in wait on the other side of the planet and launch a strike after the battle to hit them while their pants are down.

Oh yea that would be awesome. But since Destiny isn't an MMO there won't be as many people. So space battles won't be as fun (My opinion).

            • ELEPHANTS WOOO! But seriously, I loved using that vehicle in custom games on Sandtrap. We would play a game where you were damaged if you were traveling on the ground outside of the Elephants, so you had to stay on them to survive. We played a game called Pirates where you would just have to overwhelm the other elephant and capture it to win. It was short and crazy. The best part was the wait for the Elephants to get in range of one another. I love largescale vehicle combat like that. I hope they try to include elements like that.

            • No offense but just how many of these identical topics are there going to be? I was literally just reading another topic (updated only minutes ago) about the exact same thing. I know that we are all starved for information (Bungie you damn bastards... give us some new things to talk about) but it would be much simpler to keep similar topics in one thread. That way we can possibly figure out some new things instead of having to scour the forms for the same information.
