Could PS4 games really be £65/$100?

Clicking the link above ^ will direct you to the Amazon.com page for Watch_Dogs, where you can select the version you want based on which console you want. The current-gen console versions will set you back around $60, the standard asking price for a game, but the PS4 version is shown as being a whopping $99.99. Granted the page appears to have a placeholder release date, but it's the first PS4 game that's been given a price on the site. Could we really be looking at £65/$100 games? Here's hoping this really is just a placeholder... Further investigations reveal this article which states "Sony is aiming for a ceiling price of $60 for headline PS4 releases", but this simply says they will "aim for" the price. What are the odds the ceiling could be a colossal $100? Amazon representatives have commented on Facebook that the price is in fact just a placeholder, as they don't know the full cost just yet. We'll have to keep our eyes open on this one methinks.

  • I think at the least they'll shoot for a $10 increase to $70 for headliner releases in the next gen. I wouldn't buy a game for $100 standard edition. It would just put more use on the used game market, essentially if games were that high I wouldn't be surprised at a decrease in game sales and used games, since people don't want to sell them back for a mere fraction of the cost.

I don't understand people's disgust at a possible price hike. The demand is for better graphics, more options, and more features, yet no one wants to pay for it. An increase in graphical fidelity means more man-hours, and if they want to keep game production within a reasonable time-frame that means hiring more people. You can't seriously expect coders to work twice as fast as they already do just to produce more content for you - more people are needed. You all want these things, but no one wants to pay... New release 360/PS3 titles are already $100+ in Australia :)

    • Would you buy a standard game for $100? I know my only purchases would be Destiny, Halo, and maybe Gears of War. I would absolutely NEVER buy a new franchise game for $100. $60 is already incredibly expensive. I know many games have replay value that exceeds the $60 price tag but for the most part most games are worth $40 at best. That's why most games drop in price quite quickly. If PS4 games started at $100 you would see price drops within the first week followed by every release start at $70(at the very very worst). Could you imagine trying to sell hardware when their is the current gen 360, PS3, and WiiU selling games for $40 cheaper?

      • Nobody would buy the PS4 unless they were millionaires, i doubt they're stupid enough to do that.

      • Sony confirmed PS4 games will cost from $0.99 to $59.99 (special editions aside). That's what Jack Tretton, CEO of SCEA, says.

      • This has already been a topic before... But I'll explain it again. They need to over price the game, they're doing it on purpose. Because if they price it at $50 and when it's actually announced it's $60, they have to ship all of the pre-orders that were made at the original $50 for that price which would mean they lose $10 for every early pre-order that was made.
