It wouldn't work. I can make a religion thread tagged "offtopic fun lol catpics" and then you'll have to see it. Then people also tag politics or religion in their gaming threads so they can maximize who sees their thread.

  • Well, you could. But I think if we had a negative tag search like the OP asks for, then it would be easier to mute/hide those people that poorly tagged their posts to avoid that search. It would be "spam" to you, instead of the current situation, where it may not be spam, you just don't want to see it right now and want to exclude religion threads. Keep the feedback coming, guys, this is all very helpful.

Could you maybe make the words in a thread title relevant... somehow? For example, if a thread title is "What's your stance on religion?", but it's tagged only with #offtopic, Bungie.net would filter it out if you have #religion blocked. The drawback would be, if someone writes "Oh my god, new Destiny info", that would be filtered if you have #god blocked. Though maybe that could be cancelled out if you're following #Destiny. Or maybe if a thread title contains a blocked word, it would be collapsed rather than completely muted. ... Gah, this is getting quite convoluted now to be honest though, so perhaps it's not such a good idea.

  • Originally, you tagged topics by typing the tag as part of the subject, there was no seperate tag field. We found that cumbersome and confusing in practice.

  • I think you are being pessimistic, to some extent. Yes, in order to be totally effective, this system would have to be insanely complicated. However, in order to be mostly effective, it could be pretty simple. I would take that.
