Wow, he's an animator? I thought that Caption Render was the only animator besides me on b.net.

Really? Wow that amazes me! I'm also glued to my monitor 24/7, animating in Autodesk Maya. :D
-
How long have you been at it? I'm more of a 2D guy but I'd likely go 3D if I could. My strong point is cinematography so the ease of directing in a virtual stage is enticing.
-
Are you using toonboom animate, tvPaint or flash?
-
Edited by A 3 Legged Goat: 1/27/2013 12:26:55 AMHave used all of them including Anime Studio (lol), Flipbook, and this other one (I think it was Pencil or something). I also got to try out RETAS Pro for a few days and I didn't want to stop, but I'll likely never get my hands on a personal copy. In the end, I always end up back in Flash because of its accessibility, but it's difficult to produce something that doesn't look cheap.

Edited by Money: 1/27/2013 12:14:45 AMI'm in my third year (i'm an animation student) and I already understand the software completely. Animating in 3D is the same as in 2D. You first block your scene pose to pose and then you start splining it. It's great for cinematography indeed because you have this free camera! Only moddeling/rigging takes time to learn.

modelling, rigging, and texture composting are the main things that have me anxious about 3D. Then there's simulations, which I'll probably never learn since it's more programming than actual animating. Do you have any experience with textures?
-
But it's not hard to learn 3d. It's not rocket science. ;)
-
This semester my new course will be more in the 3D/Maya area, so we'll see. inb4 I flunk
-
You're also planning on building your own light table? I have one of those too! Lol! Do you use a pegbar?
-
Edited by A 3 Legged Goat: 1/27/2013 12:45:22 AMI've only recently started gathering the supplies. I'm debating whether to build a desk from scratch or modify one from the store. Either way, I know it'll be more personal (and cheaper) if I built it.

Yes, i know how to use the UV texture editor in maya but most of the time i simply paint on the models in mudbox. It's very cool
-
You make it sound so easy! D: I must learn this ASAP
