seriously? stop crying and realize not everything you see on a forum has to have your stamp of approval. it's not like it's hurting anyone.

Racist and insulting tags don't hurt anyone?
-
are they unsightly? ya, is it nice? of course not but come on, you have to realize it exists. people don't have a right to not be offended by someone else's views. and really, i don't think they should hurt people.
people don't have a right to not be offended by someone else's views.
So, people have a right to be offended by someone else's views. Yet...
i don't think [racist and insulting comments] should hurt people.
People shouldn't be offended by racial slurs against them?
-
offended and hurt are two different things. is it uncalled for yes. but i think i know myself for me to not care about racial slurs. some of that stick and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me? you can just ignore it. in the scope of this forum, 90% of the time it's just meant to screw around and isn't actual racial hatred.
-
Offended and hurt are two different things, yet they often go together even when we wouldn't vocalise it so. I would also argue that the intent behind rasism (e.g. racial hatred vs. screwing around) cant justify or excuse its use.
-
but the intent does justify it's use. i can be racist towards others not meaning harm and others can be racist towards me and if i know they arn't being serious then why would i care? intent is a big factor in it. but is this a reason to report tags? because of the potential for some who might be offended? they're going to come across something they don't like eventually. i feel like both of our views are valid and there is truth in both so i'll tip my hat to you good sir, but i'm sure you don't really want to keep this argument up with me. we're both probably not doing an entirely great job of vocalizing our views to make the other understand but i'm sure it's all good.

Edited by Ockeghem: 1/25/2013 4:10:26 AM
i can be racist towards others not meaning harm
I dont think we control weather our comments harm or not - it is unfortunately based on how the listener / reader feels. Best to avoid iffy areas. Also, for me, racism is always wrong so, for me, intent doenst matter. And yes, we pretty much just disagree, but I appreciate knowing there is thought behind both sides.

I agree racism is wrong but i do thing there are those grey areas. good discussion though. i'll see you next time.
