Smells like a coffee shop...

So I am currently waiting for an advanced law class required for my major. It is also, however, my first class in the Law Building. When you walk in you are on the third floor, but there are many nice, comfy chairs on the second level. Right outside my room, in fact- though class doesn't start for an hour. But I noticed something very quickly. You see, this building seems to have just one type of person so far, as I people watch... hipsters. As I type, there is not a single male in vision that does not have either a beanie hat or a scarf or really thick rimmed glasses. And not a one lacks a cup of coffee next to him. And you smell it too- the whole place smells like coffee and self assurance. It's getting to me right now, I'll admit. The smell is overpowering all other senses. As I type, my vision begins to blur and I have the urge to go to a Starbucks for the first time ever. This greatly upsets me. Though I suppose it might be largely because of how hungry I am and I really want a bagel... of which I smell plenty by the way. Have any of you ever gone to an area populated almost exclusively with one type of person? Who, where, and when? Was it horrible? Were your senses overpowered by the sheer number of them? I am curious what other areas these people gather in.

Just eat coffee beans raw, and you shall out hipster them without sacrificing your dignity or appearance. They will come to respect you for being so hip, to get your caffiene from beans and not brew, and they will make you their hipster king. And being that you are their king, they will all dress in the same manner, and not do stuff based on popularity but on personal interest. You may be able to solve the hipster plague burrito, just get it done mango.

    • I've experienced this before. Tea and coffee with their vegan "meal." Hmmm.

      • Well I don't know about the hipsters, but I know that at my law school, we, the student body, collectively consumed approximately one small ocean's worth of coffee every day. Welcome to the life of a law student, where caffeine is as important as air.

I went to see a indie-folksy-rock band play at a bar recently, and the place was completely overrun with hipsters. Out of perhaps 200 people in the bar that night, I was literally (and I mean literally) the only one wearing a baseball cap. I counted 22 knit caps, and another 6 of those tweed ascot looking things that my dad wore back in the sixties. It honestly freaked me out a little. But I had to respect the determination of some of those guys. It was easily 75-80 degrees in that bar by the end of the night, and they were still covering their heads with something designed for alpine skiers.

        • I once tagged along with someone when they went to a friend's house party. It was entirely black and as a country white boy I felt somewhat awkward and out of place.

        • I haven't seen a legitimate hipster in awhile. My hometown got some overflow from Portland, but fortunately the College I go to now doesn't seem to attract many of them. I guess there aren't many hipster engineers... here anyways.

        • I feel weird walking into any place filled with white people, even if there's a black guy in the corner. And there's always a black guy in the corner.

MEPS- (Military Entrance Processing Station) Its filled with miserable kids and surprisingly old adults who are thrown together for medical exams in a giant room...Yeah you could say my senses were overwhelmed for the 15 hours i was there. Not to mention i had to go there a total of 3 times.
